Part of Norway pavilion store now given to Disney art merch instead

And of course after the Disney markup those same jackets would be going for what, maybe $1,200... I think you are actually on to something, I'm not really aware of any quintessential Norwegian products that are darned high to begin with let alone after a Disney markup... what would be the purpose of a store that had nothing reasonable enough for anyone to actually buy?

Pretty sure most of the HH merchandise sold for the MSRP that was posted on the hang tag. Which is to say, same as MSRP on the HH website, or at any other HH retailer.

Well that would be a shocker, as I've seen items in other pavilions where I've absolutely certain that the prices they are charging are way more than the items actual price in a non-Disney setting. I can get a lot of the things they sell in the Japan area in a local store that are identical for less than half of what Disney is charging... I have to think that those things are even cheaper in Japan unless Japan has some serious VAT that ratchet up the prices...With the UK item I can pull up alot of those things on Amazon for less where again I can't believe Amazon is selling me the thing cheaper than it goes for the in the UK.

There are alot of items that WDW sells that do sell for MSRP, and only for MSRP. If you ever read the terms of most discount offers, several brands end up being excluded (for instance Cobra and Titlest golf equipment), usually because the manufacturer dictates selling price. Any items that come from a manufacturer with the MSRP somewhere on the item, they use that price. For instance, a box of Pop Tarts (do they even sell them?) in a gift shop may indeed be marked up, but a loaf of bread that comes with the MSRP printed right on the sleeve, so it sells for that price.

The store in Japan isn't run by WDW (neither is China nor Morocco). Those are all run by 3rd parties. Japan is run by Mitsukoshi which is a Japanese department store chain.

And price comparing with Amazon doesn't show much. They have a vastly different overhead than a physical store, be it in your local neighborhood or WDW, and will sometimes sell items at a loss. I haven't browsed the UK store recently, but many of the items in there were just associated with a UK brand/icon and aren't necessarily from the UK, making it very possible that Amazon is selling them for less than it would cost in the UK.

I've peeked at the price tags a few times, they're insane. At least 250-300 for a modest jacket. And while I know HH is supposedly really good quality, most of the jackets seem super thin, imo. As an Orlando resident, I know I'm not in the market for that quality of a jacket. And I'm not sure what percentage of the average family on their vacation from Ohio are seriously considering dropping that much money on one of those, either.

HH quality is insane. We backpack a lot and at first I thought the same thing about the thin jackets, but my HH and my Patagonia keep me leagues warmer than some of my bulky coats. We were really lucky though and picked up two HH jackets with tags in a thrift shop for $6 total.

Not true on this point. A manufacturer is not allowed to dictate the selling price in the US. That is why they have a MSRP, it is a suggested price that a retailer is free to deviate from... US manufacturers have gotten into lots of very expensive trouble when they tried to fix prices.

Now the manufacturer is free to ban a retailer from advertising prices below a particular price which happen quite a bit with Sony items which is why many times if you try to buy one on line you have to put the item in your cart before you can see the price... but that's about the extent of what a manufacturer can do.

And yes the UK store sells a mishmash of items you can buy in lots of places in the US and some that are clearly imported such as some of the candies that you can't buy in the US stores.

That is correct and that is why I own 2 HH rain jackets and my GF has one. All bought at Epcot. The reason, they keep us bone dry while not making us sweat. Sure, they weren't cheap, but they get use all over, not just Disney. But I'd rather wear the Hellytech than a poncho, even at the price point.
