Parking Pass at The Contemporary

I read where some of the resorts such as The Contemporary will give you a three hour parking pass to park and dine or shop. Is this accurate? I had plans that I might have to change if this is true. In order to save some commuting time we had planned on arriving on Saturday, driving over and parking at The Contemporary about 3pm. We have reservations at Chef Mickeys at 5:45pm. We would walk over to the Magic Kingdom for a couple of hours before dinner, come back and eat and then walk back back over to MK for Spectromagic at 7pm. After that we would go back to The Contemporary, get our car and drive to our Resort for the night. That would mean parking there for about 5 hours. What has been your experience? Am I taking advantage of the situation? Maybe I am but can I do this or not?

If you go check in at your resort first, they'll give you a parking pass that you'll be able to use to park at the TTC, then just hop the monorail over to the MK or Contemporary, and avoid the worry!

I guess with such a short time frame I was trying to avoid the extra time involved in driving to the TTC. Especially when I was going to actually be eating at their resort. I guess maybe your saying that it is uncertain whether it can work so why take the chance? Or at least that is what I am begining to ask.

Basically, it's more like doing the right thing. That parking space you'd be using is actually for Contemporary guests, so using it for that much time, particularly if you're over in MK, simply would be dishonest.
I won't say it hasn't been done before, but that doesn't make it right.

There has been so many problems in the past with non-Contemporary Resort guests parking in the Contemporary parking lot that they have really become sticklers about who does and who does not belong and /or park there.
If you parking pass says you can park for 3 hours then I wouldn't push it.

Having stayed at The Contemporary Resort several times and having had to deal with the probelm of not being able to find a parking space, I certainly understand the concern.

How ironic that you ask that question today. Check out this question from allearnet. It is basically the same question http://www.allearsnet.com/aa/anita.htm#ques4

I have seen that question before from other people and actually I read a thread here from people all giving their experience of how they managed to park longer at the Contemporary than they were supposed to. I haven't read about anyone saying they were towed or anything like that, but why take the chance at being the first one to have to write that story? IMHO just park at the TTC.

Last year, we did something similar...we ended up parking at the Wilderness Lodge though. They have a very nice boat ride to the Contemporary or to the MK. They really aren't sticklers about their parking either.

(this was not an all day thing for us either...probably roughly 4 hours or so)

We are DVC members though...don't know if that makes a difference.

I do agree if you valet park, they probably won't mind a bit. For example, if you were attending a conference at the Contemporary, you'd probably be there more than 3 hours. And most guests probably don't choose to valet, so you won't be stealing someone's spot. For $12, it will be worth it.

I believe if you pay the $12.00 to valet park the car you may leave it there as long as you like.

It's $7.00, not $12.00 and if you do valet, you do not need to be worried about how long you park. However, if you have the disney dining experience card, valet parking is free, I just tip the guys who take/bring the car.

This past Augest we parked our car over there and told them that we were eating at the Steakhouse and the person said "Ok, just park the car in self park area and go right ahead". No three hour parking pass that we had to put on the car. So I think that you can get away with it.

That is true, if you have the dining experience card and plan on eating at a resort, simply bring the receipt along when you go pick up your car and you will not have to pay for valet parking. Tipping, of course, is still suggested.

And yes, if you valet your car, they don't seem to care how long your park for. At least, they have never told me anything.

I've never had to show my receipt for the free valet parking. Have they every asked for it?

If your going to park at the Contemporary before your ADR at Chef Mickey's & go to the Magic Kingdom, then once your meal is done & go back to the Magic Kingdom, then your taking up a parking spot from a Contemporary guest or another guest with an ADR. There parking lot can fill up fast, so why should you add the problem? If your just there for your ADR & want to look around, that's great just don't go on over to the Magic Kingdom, because you really should not.

Last time we were down there we parked there because we were eating at Chef Mickey's, afterwards we went to MK for 3 or 4 hours, they didn't care at all. We didn't know that there was anything wrong with doing that.

As one who has stayed at The Contemporary Resort and had to drive around and around for long periods of times with 3 young children in the car looking for a place to park, I can tell you that it's a pain and can make for a very un magical situation.

I can understand that you didn't realize that there was anything wrong with doing this, but a LOT of people know it's wrong and do it anyway.

What if you had a wife that was 9 months pregnant, and went grocey shopping, only to return home to find that not only her driveway, but the whole street in front of your house was full of cars that didn't belong there so she had to drive 2 streets over and walk to your house with all her groceries in tow?

I know that's a little far fetched, but that's about how we felt when we returned to our Resort and ended up having to drive around for half an hour before finding a parking spot and still had to walk for what seemd like a half mile back to our room with 3 little children and bags and bags full of stuff.

I just wish sometimes that people would be more considerate of others.

Whether or not you get a parking pass often depends on the day of the week and what is going on at the resort. If there is a convention or it is the weekend, especially a busy one, you will get a parking pass for three hours. However, I have never seen anyone get a "ticket" or towed. It just wouldn't be a very good guest experience.

The real issue here is being considerate of others. If you park at the TTC, you can board the monorail and go directly to the magic Kingdom. One thought to ponder is how long it will take to walk from the Contemporary to the MK entrance. Its not a long walk but can take 10 to 20 minutes depending on your group. Add to that the time it may take to find a space at the Contemporary and and it gets even longer.

Now that I have said all of that, the Polynesian resort has a ton of parking available that is usually no where close to being filled. You get the same three hour parking pass. You can park there and take the resort Monorail to the Kingdom or make a short walk to the TTC monorail station and take the express beam.

They are going to do it anyway. They arent the first people and they wont be the last. Its not worth it to get all upset and tell them how wrong they are either. If it isn't their car taking up a hotel guests spot, it will be someone elses. It is what America has come to and I can no longer argue for what might be the right thing to do when my daily experience shows that the majority of people no longer care.

Don't forget NITEOBSRVR that the original question was regarding eating at The Contemporary and visiting MK in addition. It would not make a lot of sense to park at the Poly. I'm sure that's not exactly what you meant.
