Parking at Hotels

I understand that you can get parking credit when dining at one of the hotel premium restaurants. But I just booked the Luau at RP, and was told that I could not get parking credit, because I was staying at the RP. That doesn't seem fair!

Does anybody have any insight on this? Thanks!

Why would you need a couple hour parking pass when you are already staying at that hotel?

IIUC you pay for parking at the hotel. As a premium restaurant guest, I park for free. I thought for sure if I was staying at the hotel, I could get free parking if dining at one of their premium restaurants that day. But I can't figure out how to make that work.

You could eat at one of the other hotels and park there for the duration of your meal. That would get you the same benefit.

The pay for parking is really overblown. Just add it into the per night cost of the room and you are still getting a great place to stay for a reasonable rate. The reason it is a separate charge is not everyone has a car with them so those people are not paying that charge. Other places charge everyone with higher room rates for all and those that don't have a car end up paying even though they are not getting that service.

When we stayed at Cabana Bay last summer I had to tell the girl at check-in that we didn't have a car three times. She really wanted to get that parking fee out of me.

Then, it would only be fair if the people using on-site transportation pay a fee for that service. Plenty of people walk or drive their cars over to the parking garage. We pay the same room rate as those who use the launch or bus. Why should we pay to park our car, when others don't pay for the costs associated with the on-site transportation. I know most probably simply use on-site transportation. But, there are those of us who don't.

I think you are confusing who provides those services and who provides the parking at the hotels. The hotels are run by Lowes not Universal.

Thanks, everyone. Your opinions have given me a different perspective.

In the end, I have to agree with JoeCamel: just bite the bullet and pay for parking for the week. Any workaround adds too much inconvenience.

Thanks, all!

I think that is best. I looked for commercial parking lots in the area and thought about Ubering over from there. I usually stay 10 days at a time so that could have paid but the closest are downtown and as you say it is just too much of a pain to do. It is two drinks less a day which is probably good for me.

Yeah, I agree. I looked into doing something similar, but with less of a price difference than commercial lots: some of the local off-site hotels will let you park for a fee overnight even if you're not a guest. I looked into some; I think the Hyatt or Holiday Inn or one of the others - I can't remember - is about $8 / day, and you can walk over to CW or the HRH to get back to the RP. Still, if you want to use your car, or if you want to store something in the car and get at it, it's a pain. Plus you have to drop your luggage, and then move the car, and reverse the process when you check out. It's IMO not worth it.
