I don't know if collecting is the right word, but I do have one from each park for every visit we've made to Disney. Does that count?

P.S. I also have the various napkins designs.

I collect a park map from every single park I go to, each time. I have TONS of them. My oldest ones are 1993 editions of MK, Epcot, and MGM. They're a cool keepsake, and its neet to look back at how the park was before they changed something (Epcot map with World of Motion and Horizons on it)

New Maps

Let me tell you now, you're not going to like the new maps at WDW. They are far less detailed (as if they could get worse, but they did) and now they have an alphabetical listing for things you want (wish?) to locate. The property map has gone downhill too. Disney has a long reputation of showing you "only" what they want you to see. They have the power at WDW so they make the rules! Did you ever notice that all of the WDW maps are just cartoon drawings and are WAY out of proportion? Don't misunderstand me, it's a fantasy world and the maps just underscore the unreality.

I collect them I have some from 1975, 1982, 1985, 1997, 2000. And hope to get them in 2002 on our trip there. Does anyone know how to get them if you don't go there? Disney won't send them by request.

Time to show how pathetic I really am...

I have EVERY park map from 1998 to present...AND....

I have about 100 others from various points all the way back to 1983...

I collect them! But, I have fewer than I would like to have... only really started doing it for my past 2 visits. I also have just about every brochure from the WDW (Transportation, Water parks, Downtown, everything). I got two full-sized envelopes full of Disney maps & brochures from 1999 & 2000.

James, aren’t you getting just a little carried away? They’re called “guidemap’s” because they are meant to guide you through the parks. This isn’t the same as a state or city map that shows all the roads or paths. Everything is drawn the way it is so that most people (including those who can’t read very well) can use them to get around the parks. No, they don’t show the areas that aren’t open to guest on the maps but why would they? That stuff has nothing to do with your day in the park. Some of us might like to see “everything” but we are in the minority as far as that is concerned. The average guest just wants to have fun in the parks. That’s why most of them go :)

I wouldn’t consider this a case of big brother (Disney) ‘showing you “only” what they want you to see”. More than likely, they are showing you what only what the vast majority of guests care about – which isn’t behind the scenes stuff or closed attractions.

The Maps are getting Worse

MrPromey, thanks for the quote! Case in point is the WDW Transportation Guide/Map. The map dated 03/01 shows Sherberth Road and its intersection with U.S. Highway 192. This road is a "back entrance" to the AKL and the All Stars and Coronado Resorts. This is a great route to use (particularly in the busy season) to get in and out of WDW without having to deal with the traffic problems associated with World Drive, Epcot Center Drive or Buena Vista Drive. The latest WDW Transportation Guide/Map (10/01) has taken Sherberth Road off the map. Let me assure you, the road is still there. Why did they take it off the map MrPromey? You're a local so perhaps you know. I got 3 different answers from WDW personnel after asking the question 6 times. Also, reference the backstage areas, I wasn't really speaking to that point (that's another story). The current guide maps are fine for "experienced" WDW guests such as you sir. Heck, I bet that when you walk through the gate you don't even bother to look at a map! I'd guess you pick 'em up just for collectors items. Like a lot of other folks here, I have been collecting the park maps at WDW since 1977. I also make it a point to get them in all the different language versions. Eastman Kodak Company does a great job producing these maps. Just last year, you could look at a park guide map and find the "turkey leg" stand in Frontierland or an ice cream stand at Epcot. Those days are now gone. The new maps are bigger (new =18 x 16 (288 sq. inch) old =22.57 x 12 (273 sq. inch) yet much less detailed, have smaller print and have much less information. Facts are facts.

The new maps will only have "permanent" information on them. Things that change (i.e. special events, times, etc.) will be printed on a separate insert (B&W) inside the color map. Hang onto the old ones folks, they maybe worth some money one day.

I have park maps going back about 11 years. In fact, I sent some scans to Steve and they are posted on the main page. At least they were a few months back.
