Park Maintenance

OK...so I just saw Fantasmic, and I thought it looked great. Seems as though everything is working (with the exception of Mickey's fire fingers in the beginning). I could only find one bulb out on Main Street (yahoo) and there seem to be lots of other projects going on. So things are looking pretty good! But then there's the windmill on TSI. What's going on there. It's had a missing/broken blade for what...two years. Anyone on the inside know why this has not been fixed? Come on Disney....two years is unexceptable.

You would think they could at least put the broken blade down. Then they could hide it with some shrubs or something.

Were you actually walking around looking for maintenance issues?

as someone that grew up at wdw practically i was used to the parks before the eisner era & the lack of maintenance that he let occur. i'm sure i could stroll thru the parks & notice many things that have not been fixed that should have been done a long time ago. when u visit the parks often it seems to add to your ability to notice things wrong.

^^ Too true. Pre Eisner, when I worked there there were so many maintenance people that they would sit idly inthe tunnel or their shops waiting for things to do, so as a result more projects got done.

Then "accountaneering" took over and the process was "streamlined" for better "efficiency" of "manpower". And once you've convinced ANY company that they don't need to spend the money for something it is an uphill battle to get them to spend it again.

Thankfully Eisner fixed that problem you mentioned... if "so many ... people" were "sitting idly ... waiting on something to do" then there's something wrong.

Only one burnt out bulb, huh? Glad you spent the effort looking for it... :brick:

I'm there at least once a week. Maybe one day I'll be able to join the ranks of you wdw masters enabling me to notice and remember burned out bulbs.

Here is a short story on my observations of Disney World's maintenance. Please read!

I defanitely do not go to Disney just to look for problems. However, even though I never go out of my way to spot something wrong, I am sort of a perfectionist (that's one reason I admire and respect Disney World so much, for their quality attempt at perfection). So it's in my nature to sometimes just notice things not working or broken. I remember in the 80's up to maybe 6-7 years ago, when I would notice something not working one day and a few days later I'd visit the park again and sure enough, it would be fixed. I remember this on Small World. One day a light was out as you were entering the first room. I thought "I wouldn't think Disney would be OK with that". Then a few days later, it was fixed and I was so impressed. So I took my wife for the first time a few years ago and was telling her about how efficient Disney is. Our first day in Magic Kingdom we noticed a letter missing off the Frontierland entrance sign, some animatronics not working on Splash Mountain, and the foil coming off inside the volcano on Peter Pan. We didn't really care, but for fun we said "I bet it will all be fixed when we visit in a few days". So we looked for them the next time we were there and to my disappointment, none of them were fixed. I could understand the issues on the attractions, but the Frontierland sign really suprised me because it looks so sloppy with a missing letter. I felt bad because I wanted my wife to be as impressed with Disney as I had always been. I felt like they let me down.

In conclusion, I hold Disney to higher standards than any of other business or company in the WORLD. I don't accept when someone says "hey they are just like anyone else, they can make mistakes and have flaws". I know they can, but they have the man power, the money, and the experience and know how to avoid and hide as many of those mistakes and flaws as possible. I just don't like to see simple things go unfixed.

Thanks
