For all of you going to wdw in the days preceeding Mission: SPACE's official opening, be sure to check the official park hours at disneyworld.com, as they have been extended:) The show schedules still haven't gotten the update, however...

We're going the week before M:S soft opening (9-17).
They've added anywhere from 1/2 to 1 hour at MK (10PM close)
They've added an hour at AK during the week (6PM close)
With Illuminations at 9, I understand why they didn't change Epcot closing time.

But why didn't they add an hour at the Studios? Is it because of Fantasmic? A 10PM close would mean a 9 and 10:30PM Fantasmic and they don't want to ADD another Fantasmic showing?

Well so far they have only updated the MK hours.

But I am glad they will now be staying open until 10 and having fireworks. I hope soon they will add SpectroMagic everynight too. It is my favorite.:)

With the later MK openings for the week of August 10-16, looks like they've added SpectroMagic and Fantasy in the Sky to the evenings that previously hadn't had it scheduled.

Mission: SPACE is the reason Future World has been closing at 6 pm all summer--Disney wants most guests to be clearing out of Future World as they start to close SPACE, so that it's empty at 9 pm--easiest way to do that is to close Future World 3 hours before that point. Even though Test Track and SPACE stay open until 9, the volume of guests in Future World does drop considerably.

Hasn't future world pretty much always closed earlier than world showcase? I know it has for the past 3 years that Ive gone. :brick:

um, no. disney was doing early closures of future world WAY before the current test openings of m:s started. they want to funnel guests into the world showcase area at night. however, a 3 hour wait for illuminations isn't all that appealing to some people. in fact, the c6pm closures seem to be making some people actually leave the park and head over to mk or just call it a day. so, their plan really isn't working out as great as they had hoped.

Future World has closed at 7 pm since September 11, and these hours were reduced to 10 am to 7 pm at that time. Then they returned to 9 am to 7 pm, and earlier this year, they were reduced to 9 am to 6 pm. However, had this been a normal summer, Epcot would have been open 9 am to 7 pm, like it was over Easter break. I am saying Mission: SPACE is the reason it is closing at 6 pm all summer, which a lot of people like to complain about. And their plan is working EXACTLY as well as they want. They want people OUT of Future World at night, which is why you will ONLY see Disney extending hours at MGM and the Magic Kingdom, while Future World stays at hours some people would call pitiful. That is why in the past few weeks, Disney has oddly extended hours at MGM only during the week, not on the weekend when crowds are higher--SPACE was only open on weekdays.
