Page numbers inaccurate?

I've noticed that in longer threads, the quick links to "pages" of a thread aren't always accurate. For example.. from my login:

http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=497536&page=18

If I click on page 19, it brings me to page 18.

http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=440383&page=233

If I click on 235 or 234, it brings me to page 233.

I suspect it has something to do with deleted posts, and the shortcuts not respecting the loss of those posts.

It hasn't been too bothersome except when trying to follow new posts to a thread. On those longer threads, I frequently find that I'll click on the next page, then read a bunch of posts before realizing I'm back on the page I was already on.

You're right, when a number of posts are deleted, the total pages often no longer matches the actual number of pages.

It's an anomaly in the software.

Now I remember why it's slightly irritating. It completely breaks the "click on the image that looks like a chevron to get to your latest unread post in this thread" functionality. In the cases where that post would have been on the last page if posts weren't deleted, it just defaults to the top of the latest page the forum engine can display.

I guess those are the breaks ;-)

In reality those posts are still there. The moderators and administrators can still see them...we cannot.

If the software calculated posts that we can see, it would throw the count off for those that CAN see them. It would require a separate page counter for members and one for admin. The problem with that is the page counter is user alterable. You can tell the software how many posts per page that you want to see in your USER CP. Call it a "glitch", but I believe the repair of this "glitch" would be more of a server CPU hog that the benefits.
