I'm looking for music from the Big Band era... but not necessarily made in that time... such as the remake of Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy (original from the Andrew Sisters) and redone very well by Bette Midler (who i didn't like until i heard this song..)
anyway, i know a lot of members on the forums enjoy a wide variety of music, and thought I would ask if anyone enjoys this genre of music, and what their recommendations are!
thanks!

For more modern swing music, you can look to bands like the Brian Setzer Orchestra, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Cherry Poppin' Daddies and Squirrel Nut Zippers.

Bette Midler performs a song called "Stuff Like That There" which is reminscent of the Andrews Sisters' "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy", as well.

"Sing, Sing, Sing" and "In the Mood" are the consumate swing songs, both recorded by Glenn Miller and his Orchestra, among others.

On #Disney-Central, all of the Sunset Blvd. area music is big band.

there was the coolest remake of "sing sing sing" on a parrot bay rum commercial a while back (maybe in the past year)... and i wanted it REALLY bad... i e-mailed parrot bay, and they replied that the song was not released, because it was made just for them...

Sometimes I wonder about you, Joshie :lookaroun

Anyway, go here:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...102-7058983-6938500?v=glance&s=music&n=507846

Scroll about 1/3 the way down and you can listen to snippets...try Begin the Beguine (written by Cole Porter)

I grew up with swing music in my house~Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Bennie Goodman, Tommy Dorsey (who's boy singer was a young Frank Sinatra)~my father thinks music stopped being written after 1950  Email me

Also, look for some stuff by Louis Prima and Keeley Smith. You remember Louis...King Louie in Jungle Book! :D
