Is this the truth....no Osborn lights in December 2003? Oh please, tell me it's not so. This is our first visit to Disneyworld in "winter"...just to see the lights. Has this been absolutely done away with...any chance they will be somewhere else? So what is the big draw for the winter visitors now? Oh please, someone tell me something to make me excited about my ten days scheduled and booked for 12-1 through 12-11.........I could cry...I'm sure all you who have seen the lights will say that things have to be changed and improved....so tell me please what the improvement will be for 2003. Thanks.

Yes it seems almost certain at this point that there will be no Osborne lights this year. :( We have to wait and see what they do to make up for this over the Christmas period. I would personally like to see Sorcery in the Sky make a return! :)

Will it still snow on NY Street?? Or was that part of Osbornes?

And during the actual Christmas and New Years week, there is not much extra special seasonal stuff to do. Nothing at AK, nothing now at MGM, nothing at MK (no MVMCP this week) only the CandleLight Processional and Holidat stuff at Epcot countries. Seems we are paying a lot for the same amount of stuff pre all the Christmas excitement.

I'm a travel agent and I get a weekley "D-Mail" from our Disney sales rep. The 6/30 D-mail says...

Spectacle of Lights at the Disney-MGM Studios Makes Way for a New Attraction

The Disney-MGM Studios is in the process of further developing an area of the park now called Residential Street with a new stunt show attraction planned to open in 2005.
This addition will offer an exciting new experience and increase capacity at Disney-MGM Studios. Details will be communicated as information is made available in the near future.
Because Residential Street is now under construction, the annual Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights will not take place during the 2003 holidays. Opportunities to bring this event back in the future are being considered.

You should definitely still come to WDW for the Holidays. Granted, the Osbourne lights are a real treat and will be missed, but there is still plenty else to enjoy.

All 4 parks are decked out and look wonderful. Shows, music, even Downtown Disney gets into the act.

And my personal favorite thing: Cast in Bronze, plays in Epcot all month. If you don't know what/who/they are, I won't spoil it for you and just let you experience it for yourself.

My wife and relatives busted my chops last year since I became quite obsessed, had to tape a bunch of stuff, etc.

There's still hope!

I sent an e-mail to WDW's main address a few weeks ago. I got an e-mail reply back saying someone would try to contact me.

I was on vacation when they called (unfortunately, not at Disney World) so I didn't get to talk to them personally but they did leave a message on my machine.

They indicated they were calling from the "Executive Offices" (and did give me a phone # to reach them at) and that they weren't sure yet if the Osbourne Lights would appear or not. They said they would going to take guest comments/opinions into consideration so I think if people make enough of a stink about it, they may try to relocate them SOMEWHERE for this year (here's hoping since 18 of my family members and I will be visiting 12/13-12/20).

Please let me know if you hear anything different.

Thanks!

I love the Osborne lights as much as anyone (I am especially sad because I was supposed to go down the first week of January and see them but my flight was cancelled due to tons of snow in stupid Indiana, but I just figured I could see them this year or next year...) but I don't think that their abscence should be the reason for anyone cancelling a trip to WDW at Christmas time. I went for Christmas in '99 and it was amazing. The whole World is so decorated and beautiful. I enjoyed seeing the giant Christmas trees at the GF and WL. Main Street was awesome, and NY Street was so much fun with the snow and all. And World Showcase is just incredible, with all the countries decorated and celebrating in different ways. I know that no Osborne lights is a big disappointment this year--it is to me, too--however, don't overlook the rest of the Christmas magic that Disney provides. :xmas:
