Orlando's LM to be "slightly longer and a lot better"

Here's a link to a guy who claims that the interior of the ride is completed and is "slightly longer and a lot better" than the one in CA.

Can anyone confirm this?

I've heard they are making some tweaks to it...but not sure how it can be a "lot better" if it's only "slightly longer".

If by "a lot better" it means that you just follow the storyline from Ursula's side and she's in every room and it just oozes evil awesomeness...then I'm in. :ROFLOL:

I'm sure it's almost a copycat of the one in Cali. Maybe since we have more room they can add more details to the rooms.

Where's the link?

I didn't actually share the same concerns that others had from viewing DCAs version - it's still a dark ride so you're not going to be able to retell a full length movie in the time it takes to go through the dark ride without taking a few liberties.

I wouldn't expect any additional animatronics so I can't imagine that any lengthening will be that substantial.

The most common complaint was that it ended abrubtly. So maybe they are adding in one more minor show scene or something to fix that complaint.

Added the link. Not a lot of info in it beyond the "news" that our Mermaid will be "slightly longer and a lot better".

If they add the right things, I think they could make it a lot better and only slightly longer. One scene between Kiss the Girl and the finale ought to do the trick.

Hi, that's actually my blog. :) So, the guy who gave the talk was definitely doing it in an official capacity--he wasn't a custodian just talking to guests or something like that. But I know nothing more than what he said. I did ask him after he was done talking to everyone what he meant by his statement but he wasn't all that forthcoming.

In hindsight, I'm not sure that his statement that everthing will be done by the end of the year was all that newsworthy--everyone who reads here knows that--but it's nice to get some sort of confirmation out of Disney, especially about the LM ride being done by summer. Now I'm just wondering will it be early summer or even May? Since Disney likes to do soft openings to work out the kinks before the big crowds come in, you'd think May would be an ideal time.

I am not sure how they could make the ride physically longer without have to significantly change the design from the DCA version. I wonder if by longer he meant time wise and not length. The ride time could easily be made longer by slowing the ride down.

One more thing. He said you can't see it in the plans, but that Ariel's Grotto will be back, and then he pointed to where it would be. I have no idea what that means since I thought we'd already seen photos of it so it's not a big deal, right? Maybe you all can make more sense of that.

Ariel's Grotto is clearly visible in the plans. Not sure what that guy was talking about.

Yeah, I don't know either. He was sort of clearing out so I didn't have time to press him further.

As far as the "better than Disneyland" it could have just been boasting because he's a WDW employee (and he can be forgiven for that :)) but I asked him if he really did mean it would be longer (because I'm standing there thinking that I would put it in the blog and I want it to be as accurate as possible) and he said yes.

I rode the one in disneyland in october. they went from Under the sea , to ursala taking ariels voice away ,to her kissing the guy (sorry forgot his name) to the wedding and bam the end. I can see how they could add one more scene to make it a tad longer. I loved the ride . I wouldnt mind if it was exact but would like another scene or two.

Maybe he meant it wasn't obvious in the concept art on the construction wall.

Honestly--they could do a lot with just adding lighting and special effects.

I rode the one in DCA a few weeks ago and was pretty underwhelmed. I know what it's "supposed" to be, just a mild dark ride, and I felt like it was "almost" there.

There are a few spots with flat sea cutouts that could be enhanced to make for a better environment, if they were dimensional rather than flat. Seemed cheap.

The lighting overall was too bright and washed out. More pools of light. I also think that the idea of you going under the water is poorly presented. During the big "Under the Sea" scene, adding some caustic underwater lighting effects would go a long way.

How about a bubble machine or something as you submerge? Something whimsical and delightful. I know, you'd get bubble goop on everything and it's a refillable effect, but still.

Maybe a sparkling LED effect could do the same thing.

The attraction lacked "dazzle", it just seemed "there".

So, mostly lighting. Maybe a laser effect at the top of the room when you're under the sea, again, to enhance that illlusion?

Also I thought there could be some audio tweaks, for my money the mix could have been a little louder, but maybe that's just me.

So, for DCA, my take is "close, but not there". I am hopeful that just a few added effects and such will make the difference in WDW's version.

Ahhhh...but maybe they've become so paranoid about having a cool effect break down in a few months (**cough cough...Yeti...cough cough**) that they decided it'd be easier to have fewer effects. ;)

It's like the line from 'When Harry Met Sally' when he says that he doesn't take a woman to the airport at the beginning of a relationship, because he doesn't want her to say later on 'How come you never take me to the airport anymore'.

If it's not there to begin with, it can't break down and be embarrassing later on.

All kidding aside, though, I love your ideas. They seem reasonably simple and could really be that little 'plus' that would make an okay ride a really good/great ride.

With the water effects, keep in mind you are going backwards, slanted and facing the shell behind you . I think adding anything else will either be not seen , or you will see the actual lights or buble machine due to being tilted to see the ceiling.

I agree for the most part. It will fit in Fantasyland as an average dark ride, I'm sure the kids will like it.

My biggest complaint was there was no sense of immersion like I was in that environment like "Under the Sea" there was no transition and if there was different lighting or bubbles floating around or water effects or just audio sounds like being underwater.
