Orlando area Make A Wish Kids?

I've heard there is a program where MAW kids can visit area theme parks for free multiple times, but I imagine a lot of them have been plenty of times before they got sick. (and many of these kids do recover from their illnesses) so they'd rather do something else. The number #1 wish that MAW grants is a trip to Disney World, but I'm guessing that among Central Fla. kids it probably is not?

Im sure if they go to Give Kids the World Village with the whole family (as most Make a Wish kids do) it would be something new and fun for them. And honestly what kid can get bored with Disney?! :)

Give Kids the World Village is so amazing! Everyone that works (volunteers) there is simply amazing!

I read that the local MAW kids can also go to parties at Give Kids The World if they want. And no, it doesn't SEEM as though anyone would get bored with Disney, but I personally know that I got bored of beaches pretty quickly after moving to Cape Cod!

Make a Wish does so many other things besides Disney. I would guess that for local kids it's not a lifelong dream to visit WDW. My friend's son had cancer and for his Make a Wish trip they flew him and his family out to Nevada where they got to hang out with the Blue Angels for a week.

I thought that the Make A Wish Foundation was for terminally ill children?

Not necessarily. From their website:

We grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy.

They would certainly cater to the terminally ill, but many "life-threatening" conditions do not actually end up life-ending. As just one example, kids awaiting organ transplant are definately suffering from conditions that could be terminal, but a donor could be found tomorrow and suddenly they could live a long, normal life.

Speaking of which... Sign an organ donor card and let your family know your wishes. Too many people die needlessly for the want of such a simple gesture.

I work for MAW and i can tell you that if a child wishes to go to WDW or another theme park (S)he and her/his family only goes there once. Unless when they are at WDW they get park hoppers (which they almost always get).

Any other questions please feel free to ask.

I've read that the MAW kids only need to have an illness that COULD be terminal to recieve a wish. For instance, a lot of kids are cured of leukemia but if they had gotten a wish before that, MAW does not send their family a bill! There's even been at least one MAW kid who is the child of a former MAW kid.

"Make a Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy." That is from their web site.

You are correct, if a child gets a wish granted and then say in 6 months gets cured MAW does not send the bill for the wish to the child parents. Please remember that each wish costs about $5,000. Yes there is a few MAW children who's parents a former MAW child.
