Oregon "Donald" Ducks

Anyone who has seen the University of Oregon's duck mascot would say that it bears an uncanny resemblence to our buddy Donald (with the exception of him having a green and yellow tint).
He is posed in his classic "dukes-up" fighting stance...
Obviously, Disney must have granted permission to use this logo as the school's mascot. Does anyone know how it all went down?

I don't know if Donald's going to be around much longer. The university had a new mascot in a sleek suit at one of the football games. He look ridiculous, sort of like a superhero (tight suit, muscled) duck.

Nope... That PK baloney has nothing to do with UofO... MKTigger, I know that Disney OKed the use of Donald... But what I want to know is; why? and what were the circumstancs of the agreement?

I don't know any of the specifics, but I recall Walt was rather philanthropic w/ allowing non-profit and government agencies (ie- a public university) and allowed them free use of their characters, but Walt had to approve the manner in which they were used. Their contract obviously was written well.... since I know that several organizations which had prior contracts w/ Walt have had them yanked in the Eisner era

Thanks for the info, MKTiggerman... Interesting stuff... It seems as if UofO is restricting usage to the yellow "O" logo... It's almost impossible to find a picture of Donald on the athletics' website at all... Wonder if the contract has expired...
