Ordering at Akershus

Hello everyone,

I have a general questions for Disney Dining. We will be eating at Akershus so my niece can have her princess experience. As I was looking over the menu, the Kjottkake Meatballs look fantastic, but I am not a fan of the Lingonberry sauce. Is it possible to order this dish without the sauce? Additionally, can I do this while pre-ordering online. Thank you for the help.

The lingonberries are made into the sauce so it might be difficult to not have lingonberries at all. They do add a little bit of lingonberry jam to the dish they could probably leave off. But personally I loved the extra flavor it adds to the dish. Also, you don't order your food at Akershus online. You do that when you're seated at the restaurant. You can add if you have any food allergies or dietary restrictions online, etc but that's it.

Disney is very good about working with you to make your dining enjoyable. I imagine you could ask for the meatballs without sauce unless they cook up a batch of meatballs in the sauce and then dish out individual servings from that batch. I have never had or seen that dish so I am not familiar with it. I am thinking, however, meatballs without any sort of sauce would be pretty plain and sort of tasteless or boring.

As the other poster mentioned, you don't pre order food. The only place you pre order at is the counter service options at Be Our Guest in Magic Kingdom. Everywhere else is like a traditional restaurant where you are seated, receive a menu and order.

Here's a photo of the dish. It looks like the lingonberry sauce is spooned on top of the gravy/meatballs/potatoes at the end of plating, so yes, you should be able to ask them to leave it off. Tell them to set it aside with my name on it, and I'll finish it up for you when we dine at Akershus next month! I love lingonberries!

You get one serving of your choice of entree and the dessert is a pre-plated selection of three Norwegian desserts. There is a cold buffet bar of salads, breads, cheeses, smoked fish and deli meats which is all you can eat. Very yummy and more than enough food.
The picture above is not mine. I just googled Akershus buffet to give you an idea of what it looked like (only 1/2 is pictured).

Thanks Baldy, looks pretty good actually.

Now I just need to get over my fear of talking to face characters.

Akershus related question- I have an 8:10am reservation in a few weeks. I know it's kind of a hike back to World Showcase from the main gate, so what time should I plan to arrive for bag check, getting in, and walking back? Or, should I go through the "back entrance" in World Showcase? Is it even open that early?

I'm a bit confused. I thought Akershus was a buffet? But you order entrees? Is it all you can eat entrees and you keep re-ordering?
We went for dinner Oct 2015. They didn't tell us this up front so I asked (as I heard a rumor). YES, we could get a second entree. I did and both were delicious!!! It might have changed so ask your waiter at the beginning of the meal like I did.

Yes the back entrance will let you in, as will the front. Usually around 15 minutes before hour (or when they are ready and get the all clear on the radio). Back entrance will have less people and be faster (the walk is UK, Canada, Mexico, Norway.)

FWIW, we dined at Akerhus during our Disney trip last month, so I can now provide a little more insight... I ended up with the meatballs (dry, but the gravy and lingonberry preserves helped). The appetizer buffet of cold salads, meats, fresh and smoked salmon, cheeses (and on that occasion, a seasonal tuna poke that was delicious) was the highlight of the meal, for sure! The buffet is not huge, but everything on it was delicious, and I could have made a meal solely of that. (I didn't even think to ask for a second entree, although for the cost, nobody should think twice about doing it if that's what they'd like to do!)

The character interactions were lovely (although meeting Belle for a photo at the beginning seems like a dissonant "throwaway" - what's she doing camped out in Norway, anyway?) and the restaurant is much quieter and more relaxing than your typical character experience -- better soundproofing, perhaps? While I'd argue that the price is too high for what you get if paying out-of-pocket, we were there during a free dining promotion and it provided excellent value for 1 TS credit! It was also the only ADR all week (we had 8 total) for which we didn't have to wait at least 10-30 minutes to be seated.

Sorry to hijack this thread, I haven't been to Akerhaus since I was a kid (and that was before it turned into a character meal). I'm planning a trip next year with friends the week after Thanksgiving, and I was considering going here for my birthday meal. What does the buffet cost? I remember loving the fish options when I was younger, and would like to eat there again. Thanks :)

It's roughly $50 (ages 10+) or $30 (ages 3-9) for breakfast and lunch, and $57 (ages 10+) and $35 (ages 3-9) for dinner. Again, the "buffet" is only for cold appetizers, salads and breads. Entree is selected from a prix fixe menu (or served family style, if you're there for breakfast) and dessert (for lunch and dinner) is a pre-selected sampler.

Okay, so $50 including the entree and buffet, yes? Does that include drinks or no? (Sorry, it's been 8 1/2 years since I've been to WDW, and I always went with my family, so food prices were something I never really paid attention to).

The price includes everything but the gratuity -- the entire meal (appetizer buffet, entree, dessert), plus your choice of non-alcoholic beverage with unlimited refills (e.g., soda, iced tea, lemonade, coffee or hot tea, etc.).

That was the time of our ADR in October. We got to the bus stop a little after 7am and waited forever for an EPCOT bus. One finally came at 7:30. We got there in 10 minutes and had to wait in a long breakfast line. They didn't let us into the park until shortly before 8am. I don't know if EPCOT is normally like that but I was expecting something similar to MK and AK. Everyone was hustling to Norway once they let us through. I wanted to get there earlier because we don't have children and didn't want to have to wait too long in the line to enter the restaurant (because you take a picture with Belle before you're seated). If you get to the park at 7:30 you should have enough time for bag check, etc. You'll still have to wait in the line to enter.

We are considering taking an Uber instead of relying on the busses. We have three PPO reservations this trip and are staying at ASM, so it might be a "time is money" consideration. Plus, you can now pre-schedule Ubers. Thinking we would take the Uber to a monorail resort for our CRT and Akershus days. Any thoughts?
