we are staying with my dad at his timeshare (vistana resort)
in november. however, we thought we might stay one night at
either yacht club or animal kingdom lodge....

i did not know if this would be worth the money in your opinion
or should i save my $165 (ak) $188 (yacht) money and spend
it on food or souveniers??

let me know what you would do and why? you always give
great advice

Well... think of it like this...

Will you spend that day AT the resort? If so... if you are going to spend it at the resort, taking advantage of the pools, and the amenities, then by all means, go for it. If you go for AK Lodge, try and get a Savannah room, so you can see all the animals from your room.

However, if you're not going to spend the majority of that one day relaxing at the resort, it might be best to spend the money on a really nice dinner somewhere.

That is a good rate for both resorts. You might not get such a good deal in the future. Staying at the deluxe resorts are very memorable. Only problem is you could get spoiled and not want to stay anywhere else.

Fantasia Boi makes a very good point - are you going to spend time to enjoy the resort or will you only be sleeping there?

I would just consider why you really want to stay there - if you are not going to spend the time enjoying the resort and only sleeping there, then you would be better served to save your money, if you plan to spend some time enjoying it then go for it.

We stayed at AKL at spring break for 6 nights. This was the only time we have stayed on property, so keep that in mind with my opinions.

We had a fantastic time at AKL, and even considered spending one extra night, just to wander around the resort some more. BUT, we love animals, and thoroughly enjoyed talking with the Savannah Guides (young people from Africa), and getting to know something about customs and traditions from such a distant part of the world. My wife and I found the food incredible, but my children thought it was *okay*. We also thought the decorations were very interesting and well done.

We enjoyed the pool. BUT, my children are not strong swimmers and thought it was great that the deepest part of the pool was (I believe) 4' 8". There is a water slide, but it is geared for young children. Older and more active youth and teens would probably find it boring.

From our experience, the strong points of AKL were the animals, the decor, and interacting with the people from Africa. I hope this helps in your decision making process. Whatever you decide, have a great time!:D

well that depends on if you have the dollars. I say if you want to enjoy one of those resorts make sure you plan on staying at that resort most of the day to get your moneys woth. Great pools at both. But I dooooooooo love my presents.

the 165 is with tax for the savanah view with AP rate.(AKL)
the standard view is 121 with tax.

i thought to compare apples to apples i got the prices
as close as I could so I could save more money

but the perks at the yacht club and the sand bottom
pool make it very tempting and it would be 2 wks. after
my 11 yr. anniversary....so that is why I am pushing for it.

lots places w/in walking distance too not to mention
the steakhouse and icecream...yummy:p

I say pamper yourself and stay at a resort. It doesn't matter which one...they all have their own Magic.

I recommend to everyone I meet that talks about Disney World to stay on Disney Property at least once.

It's very relaxing and when you wake up...you're already there in the middle of the magic.

But like someone else said...it is addicting.
We stayed on Disney Property for the 1st time 12 years ago and now we won't EVER stay off property again.

AKL -> One of the only truly unique things at WDW

"i did not know if this would be worth the money in your opinion

it on food or souveniers?? "

Animal Kingdom Lodge (AKL) is really one of the truly unique things that makes Disney World so special. There is no where else outside of Africa that you will get an experience like it.

I stayed six nights at AKL last December (Dec. 5 - couldn't miss Walt's -real- 100th - God rest your soul, Walt!) and, frankly, I could hardly get myself to leave the resort and, more specifically, my balcony. Going back for seven night this year too.

Trust me, there is nothing at all like waking up to giraffes outside your window. It's absolutely, positively, genuinely magical and amazing and REAL - not a facsimile or an audio animatronic, but real animals. The food is awesome, the rooms are unique, the layout is one-of-a-kind. The memory will last, if you take the time to stop and enjoy.

I have seen trip reports where people literally couldn't get themselves to leave the resort for a park. Yeah, I thought that was crazy too - until I experienced it for myself! Stay at AKL and leave your park early - you'll be tired anyway. It's a wonderful place to relax, unwind, and enjoy the sparkle and charm that (and I really mean this) only Disney has the expertise, willingness, and money and vision to offer.

Is it worth it? Yeah, it is. And you're probably not going to WDW to -save- money, right? :king:
