Online Check in

I’m always one for convenience and not waiting in line for things I don’t need. However, for some reason Im holding off the online check in.

We will need to collect our magic bands when we arrive in any case but I think I’m looking forward to being welcomed when we arrive and having a chat with the check in desk.

interested to know the thoughts and experiences of others from recent visits. Is one method a better experience than another? Are there any benefits to be aware of That I could be missing out on?

You can do both. One does not preclude the other.

We always have to collect magic bands or KTTW cards, but also do online check-in.

Weve done both. It can be harder to check in at the lobby if youre arriving at the same time as many others are. The line to get to the desk can be longer than you expected. I also enjoy the CM interaction but recently that excited welcome from them has varied depending on the person you happen to get to being wonderful to being missing. Weve also checked in online and still had to go to the lobby to get some detail fixed so it didnt save us time.

Thanks, how does online check in work? Do they let you know your room number in advance? And if so does that mean there is less chance of getting the room we would like (not that I’m convinced we’ve got much chance anyway!)?

As you said you would need to collect your magic bands from the front desk I’m assuming you’re an international guest. In which case you probably won’t get a text with your room number but it should show up in MDE for you once it’s ready.
It won’t affect your chances of getting a request met. But you can always ask at the front desk if you want to see if they can get you closer to where you wanted.

Plus a push notification should come through from MDE with the room number, which is easier than sitting and refreshing the app every few minutes.

Admittedly my experience was all pre-covid. But the two times I tried online check-in, we ended up going to the front desk at mid-afternoon because we still had not been told our room was ready, when showing up at the desk, it was ready just then.
Just my pre-shutdown lack of success on thinking that online check-in accomplished anything. (which it did not)
