Online check in pin codes?

Hi all,

We're getting close to our trip, we arrive sept 2nd, and my mom is trying to do online check in. We're a group of 9, including two 2yo kiddos.
So, she was asked to set up pin codes for each of the adults on the trip. Does anybody know what the pin codes are for? Is there a benefit to online check in?
We're going to be in a 3 bedroom at the boardwalk. She's DVC, I have no idea if that matters.

Thanks!

when you charge with your magic band you are asked to put in a code...a security measure so someone can't take your lost band and charge up a storm

Thanks! That was so fast!

I had just assumed they would set it up at check in. And now that I typed that out it all makes sense. Online. Check in. Obviously.

Follow up question:
Will all the bands be preloaded with my moms credit card? We are mostly adults, so don't want to (shouldn't?) charge everything to my mom.

Do you have the dining plan? Even if you aren't charging anything to your bands, you will need the pin number. Everytime we used a credit from our dining plan, we had to type it in... even snacks. We don't do online check-in but they will set our pin up when we arrive.

No dining plan. Do you guys know if you need a pin if you get a card instead of using the magic band?

I believe that the cards are RFID as well. They are pushing the bands, so the cards they issue are real generic, and may not even work for room charging. I don't think mine did the last trip, just got me into the hotel room. Wasn't tied to my ticket or anything like that.
