One week away!Louisville,Ky-WDW

Ok guys and gals i will be driving from Louisville,Ky to WDW next Thursday and I had a few questions. My route has me going hwy 24 towards chattanooga then 75s for a big remainder of the way. It says my route is a toll route and was wondering how much the toll is so i have the cash ready to give to him and also is there any big construction areas along the way. I am leaving around 9pm at night and arriving there around noon Friday. If theres any suggestions you could give that would be great as this will be my first big road trip to Florida. Thanks

I too am from Louisville and last time we made the drive (July 2010) I just took like $10 in quarters with me and was good to go. We left directly from work, departed Louisville at 6pm and pulled into POR around 8 or 9 in the morning. You should be better off leaving a bit later like that because the drive is dreadful once you cross the Florida line and if you have no daylight it gets pretty difficult to stay awake. 24 is a beautiful drive, but make sure that you top off around Nashville because once you get about 40 miles East you won't see another gas station for quite some time and if there's traffic in the hills you're screwed. Also, if you are starting to get hungry on 24 you'll want to stop for food in Chattanooga because there really isn't much in Georgia until you get close to Atlanta. If you are a AAA member it would benefit you greatly to stop by there and grab a Trip-tik so that you will know where all of the construction will be.

straight through it is somewhere around 15 hours. We drove over to Daytona and went up the coast on the way home but caught a torrential downpour that kept traffic rolling 30 mph for over an hour and it ended up taking a little over 20 hours to get home

haha it really isn't that bad. I'm leaving in 5 weeks for Marine Corps boot camp and if I end up stationed in San Diego I will be driving a moving van 2,161 miles with all of our stuff in it and the wife's 4Runner in tow. That'll be a rough one, around 35 hours

I plan on having alot of food on board so we only have to stop and stretch and use the restroom. I planned on leaving around 9 also because of the Atlanta traffic and i hope to get through there around 530 or 6am. I forgot about the trip tick im stopping by there today to see what they have for me.

We just did the drive from Chicago to Tampa for family reasons and stopped overnight in Knoxville. We stopped just over the Georgia line in the morning and found a great IHOP. Not much in northern Georgia, but there are a few places. As far as construction, there was about 22 miles of reduced lanes and speed in Georgia in mid August. You may want to check with AAA or the Georgia Highway Dept. to see what is still out there.

I'm about a hour and a half away from Louisville in Indiana and our drive is supposedly 16 hours but my dad made it through in 14 hr 46 minutes! That however was without any problems through Atlanta and short stops :)

We are about an hour north of Nashville and we were able to do the drive in just over 12 hours. That included a pretty lengthy stop for lunch. I am headed back next Friday and hoping to be able to do it again! Good luck!!

In theory it may take 12 hours but in real life it usually takes us about 16 lol! On our last trip we left Louisville at 7 am and got to the resort at midnight! Keep in mind food and rest room stops, Atlanta traffic  and construction. It gets a little tricky driving at night and it is very easy to get turned around. At least it was for DH ;) I hope you guys have a smooth and safe journey and enjoy your trip!
