"To all who come to this happy forum, Welcome. The One Sentence Competition is your game. Here age relives fond memories of the past, and here youth savor the challenge and promise of the Imagineering forum."

ONE SENTENCE COMPETITION
We Return...
PRISMS OF LIGHT

All users are welcome to join in on the One Sentence Competition- it doesn't matter if you're not a regular on the forums, an observer, or an active participant. The low stakes yet high fun of the One Sentence Competition is fit for everyone. Don't worry about a time commitment given how the challenges max out at three sentences. This event is perfect for those on the go with plenty of things going on, or great for those who know how to perfectly get their elevator pitch across. If you miss a few challenges don't worry about it as throughout the Episode there will be plenty of ways to make up for the times you couldn't make it. There’s also no concrete sign-up system- just write out your first pitch and you’re in!

There will be 10 Rounds and each will last around 4 days. There will be a two-day break around the end of the fifth prompt and deadline extensions of special holidays. You'll be given a prompt and you have to pitch your idea with only 1-3 Sentences and up to 1 Picture.

THE TWIST IN THE GAME
Just the name of the competition gives insight into what the twist to this competition is. As you might have learned in Science classes years ago, when a single beam of light hits a prism of a specific shape, the light from the beam can refract and transmit into streams of color, also known as a rainbow. This idea reflects Imagineering competitions. Usually, the judge or host of the game points a flashlight “prompt” into the prism of Imagineering, and it’s up to the users to create the rainbow that comes out of it. But this time- the host won’t be the one shining the flashlight- it’s going to be you!

So basically: The winner of each prompt will decide the prompt for the next (choosing from a list of five).

THE VALUE OF CREATIVITY AND GOOD IDEA
A pitch is simply a short introduction of a concept that you're trying to convince someone to make happen (in the previous game, it was Joe Disney. This time it's ME.) It isn't about how good you are at writing or drawing. It doesn't matter if you have hours to spend working on your project or minutes (some 1SC projects have been done in seconds even). All that matters is having a good idea and being able to communicate it efficiently. This puts everyone on equal footing.

(As a side note, the host AGP is a stickler for good presentation. Even a quick adjustment of font and color can elevate your pitch)

Simple enough for newcomers, but rewarding enough for veterans.

A great way to start in the Imagineering forums, to relax a bit between bigger competitions, or just to have a good time and use your imagination a bit! Everyone who participates in a challenge will receive 1 point, as long as they follow the rules. Then, the top three will receive either the Redlight Award (1 point), the Greenlight Award (also 1 point), or the Violetlight Award (2 points and decides the next prompt) medals. Plus, each round will have an Honorable Mention for an idea that excels in one area that deserves a special shout-out but wasn't in the top 3 overall for whatever reason. Whoever has the most points at the end of the game wins bragging rights and first dibs on hosting the next Episode (last time’s winner was @AceAstro, but dropped out of the position due to outside work).

Every round will also feature a Bonus; complete the bonus and get an extra point! These will usually be a fun little addition and often focused on sharpening specific Armchair Imagineering skills such as including an original drawing, choosing some music to accompany your project, creatively using fonts/color choices, or adding a holiday overlay. Don't be surprised to see a more wacky bonus or two too!

The game begins at MIDNIGHT (WDW time) TONIGHT!

Refract your ideas and hop in!

Toy Troubles
Welcome one and all to the first spectrum of the One Sentence Competition: Prisms of Light!

-The Set Up-
As the winner of the previous OSC, @AceAstro has shone a beam of light on the first prism, and the light has landed in many places… namely the Toy Story lands all across the world! It goes to nobody’s surprise that the Toy Story lands have dominated almost every resort at the Disney Parks, in a not-so-good way: the lands are known to be chock full of “cheap and cheerful” flat rides, with bare bones, simplistic theming, while using up multiple acres of space. Considering how redundant the lands are, it’s time to take their replacement into your own hands.

1713326671205.jpeg

-Challenge-
Pitch a new family friendly land to replace any existing Toy Story Land at any resort of your choice.

-Rules-
  • This means that the resorts you work in should be in Florida, Paris, Hong Kong, or Shanghai.
  • You may use between 1 to 3 sentences and up to 1 image.
  • No AI generated artwork, writing, or assistance in the brainstorming process is allowed

-Deadline-
This project is due on Saturday, April 20th at 11:59 PM WDW Time
(8:59 PM Disneyland Time)
4 days from now

-Tips-

K.I.S.S. – Keep it simple, silly. Try not to complicate or overthink things too much. It’s a simple, casual competition – there are no eliminations. Propose as you please, let your imagination soar!

-Judging Criteria-
Is it creative?
Is it (generally) realistic?
Does it fit thematically/visually?

BONUS: A Hidden Mickey Toy Story Character?

Disney (and Universal) are both known to include references to defunct attractions in their park. Who is your favorite Toy Story character? Add a reference to them in your land. You can use up to one extra sentence and image.
This bonus results in automatic bonus point

Good luck everyone! If you have questions, please feel free to ask, and I’ll see you infinity and beyond!

Walt Disney Animation Studios Florida - REBORN

In a stunning move, WDI pays tribute to the animated features produced at the Florida animation studio with a land devoted entirely to those films: The Brother Bear FAMILY Rafting Adventure (think a small-scale Grizzly River Run but less intimidating, centered around the "Welcome" song by Phil Collins) gives DHS a long-needed water ride for the whole family to enjoy; Stitch's Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride takes guests on a wild ride through the Hawaiian beachscape (rethemed Slinky Dog Dash); finally, Mulan finally gets a "ride worth waiting for" (see what I did there?) with Reflection: Mulan's Journey, an immersive yet traditional dark ride taking the place of TSMM that retells the story of Mulan with outstanding special effects and state of the art animatronics.

[Similar looking boat, but not nearly as scary AND on a track]

BONUS: Who's that peeking from the bushes on the Brother Bear attraction—Why, it's the blue Binoculars from Toy Story looking at the NEWLY REBUILT EARFUL TOWER! [only the first part of this is the bonus, the last part is just for fun!]

Neverland
1713348400643.jpeg

Separated from its neighboring lands, this new land for Hong Kong Disneyland (replacing Toy Story Land) is themed to the movie Peter Pan (which currently has no representation in this park, until now). Guests can feel like they never want to grow up by riding Peter Pan's Flight (an updated version of the classic ride with better effects and modern technology), Skull Mountain (a thrilling log flume ride on the same scale of Splash Mountain based on the scrapped concept themed to Captain Hook and the pirates from the movie), and Pixie Hollow Spin (a rethemed version of the original Slinky Dog ride themed to Tinker Bell). While in the land, guests can also walk through a portion of the island from the movie (with has some interactive experiences), meet Peter Pan characters, and enjoy specialty foods and merchandise.

Bonus: While in the queue for for Peter Pan's Flight, you can find a chest of toys in the Darling's room; that chest contains Woody and Buzz Lightyear dolls, referencing the land that Neverland replaced.

Replacing Toy Story Land at Hong Kong Disneyland is a new land based on that underrated PIXAR classic A Bug's Life. Guests can soar through the air on the family-friendly suspended coaster Flight of the Bumblebee, dash through a subterranean maze of dirt and sand in the madcap dark ride Adventures in the Anthill, or even stop by P.T. Flea's Incredible Insect Circus. And don't forget to grab a drink at the Ugly Bug Bar on your way out.

BONUS: As a reference to what land it replaced, one of the "buildings" in Ant Island is constructed from the box that Slinky Dog came in.

Roger Rabbit’s Hollywood
1713354245133.png

Welcome one and all to Roger Rabbit’s Hollywood, this cancelled land has came back from the dead to replace the lackluster Toy Story Land. The attractions in this land is the Toontown Trolley: guests ride on the jolley trolly piloted by Roger rabbit thru toontown, Baby Herman’s Runaway Buggy: guests board a buggy as they experience a thrilling experience on this large coaster, the coaster replaces silky dog dash and offers even more kinetic energy as it goes through the land and above guests, Eddie Valiant Crime Stoppers: guests join Eddie valiant and Roger rabbit with toy guns as they stop crime, this ride replaces Midway Mania and retains the interactive dark ride system. Other offerings in the land is the toon cafe replacing roundup rodeo, a Roger rabbit meet and greet replacing Andy’s Lunchbox, and toon lagoon which takes up the northern portion of the land.

Bonus: Inside of the Eddie Valiant Crime Stoppers is a small Mr. Potato Head toy in a detective outfit.

PIXAR PLAZA
1713363409793.png

Enveloping Toy Story Land is an expansion unlike any other in order to showcase many other classics from the touted animation studio - Pixar.

Pixar Plaza will terraform the original Pixar Place corridor into a 1960s era city street, complete with an Incredibles Interactive dark ride (reusing much of the old Toy Story Mania attraction) before expanding further west beyond the former Walt Disney One Man's Dream and incorporating a jazzy secondary street corner, complete with a Soul Jazz Club, an Up house walk-through, a sushi restaurant themed to Harryhausen, and a D-ticket family swinging coaster inspired by the classic scene from Monster's Inc.

This expansion will then connect with the remainder of Toy Story Land, with walking paths accessible to Star Wars Galaxy's Edge, as well as Animation Courtyard.

Bonus: The Pizza Planet truck will be seen speeding away in the Incredibles section, driving manically to its next destination.

Monstropolis

From one Pixar IP to another, Florida is getting Monstropolis! A land that would allow guests to visit not only Monsters. Inc but the city as whole, with dining at Harryhausen’s, a stand up performance from animatronic Mike Wazowski, and a dark ride retelling the film’s plot, guests will be sure to have a scary good time! (though probably just a funny time instead)

Bonus: Much like in the film, the dark ride would feature a scene in Boo’s room where we can see she has several toys of Pixar characters, including a Woody doll.

Replacing Toy Story Playland in Hong Kong Disneyland, Celestial Peaks is a mystical realm where ancient Chinese myths and heroes dwell, ruled by Sun Wukong, whose adventures are retold in The Monkey King's Journey to the West, a Kuka flying dark ride, taking guests through Sun's challenges and battles whilst riding on clouds.

Other attractions include The Legend of Mulan, a dark ride retelling the 1998 film in the style of traditional Chinese artwork, Shengxiao Carousel is a pagoda-shaped carousel themed around the twelve animals of the eastern zodiac, and Floating Lantern Dance, an Aquatopia-style ride using water chariots shaped like paper lanterns.

The land's major restaurant is Teahouse of the Lotus, a starlit teahouse that appears to be made from a magical grove, serving a variety of Asian cuisine.

Bonus: Within the queue line of The Monkey King, there are murals depicting Sun Wukong's many feats, including meeting the Dragon King, who is surrounded by various dragons, but one has a striking resemblance to Rex.

Timeless River

Wharf_%28Art%29.png
This replacement for Hollywood Studios’ Toy Story Land also doubles as a way to reintroduce a form of Toontown back into Walt Disney World and on a bigger scale than the Magic Kingdom’s former Mickey’s Toontown Fair. In this ode to the Mickey Mouse and Silly Symphony cartoons of old (named after and also partially aesthetically influenced by a locale in Kingdom Hearts II), guests can go on a coaster ride that’s Just Plane Crazy, try out their hand at Mickey’s Midway Mania (a retheme of Toy Story Mania!), hop aboard some Frolicking Fish, and be in the midst of Pete’s Construction Commotion...oh, and let’s not forget that there’s also Hot Dogs! Hot Dogs!

Bonus
In a window display of one store in the land is a vintage B&W television, which occasionally flips to an episode of Woody’s Roundup.

I wish this land was real because a friend of mine used to tell me the ancient stories about Sun Wukong and how he defeated many demons, most of which took the form of beautiful women, as he and a group of pilgrims consisting of Tang Monk, Pigsy, White Dragon Horse, and Friar Sand went on an epic journey to the west.
