im considering buying a new digital camera, this time i want a 8x or better zoom. I found too models that fit my price range :
Konica-Minolta Dimage Z10 and Olympus Camedia C-725 (Refurb)
I also want one that i can put a filter on (filter thread or by a step-up ring)
they are both 3.3 Megapixel cameras with a 8x optical (konica minolta 4x digital ) (olympus 3x digital)

For reviews and really helpful forums check out www.dpreview.com.

As for the two cameras you are thinking about, I don't know anything about them specifically, but I do know that you should not count digital zoom as part of the total zoom capability of the camera. The reason for this is that all digital zoom does is crop the image and resample it upwards. Usually the quality of the image once this is done is pretty poor. You would be better off doing the crop and upsample on your computer later.

I don't know what your specific price range is, but if you are looking for a 3MP cam with lots of zoom you might want to check out the Canon S1. It has a 10x optical zoom with optical image stabilization. And since Canon has just come out with the replacement for that camera (the S2) you can probably find one for under $300.

Hope this helps.
