WOW, Look at this:

Puerto Rico Upsets U.S. Basketball Team

ATHENS (Reuters) - Puerto Rico upset the United States 92-73 at the men's Olympic basketball tournament on Sunday, the first loss at the Games for the three-times defending gold medallists since 1988.

The United States never led after early in the first quarter.

The Americans were down by 22 points at half-time and by 17 points after three quarters. Utah Jazz guard Carlos Arroyo led Puerto Rico with 24 points. Tim Duncan had 15 for the Americans.

Puerto Rico had never beaten the United States in Olympic play, losing all five of their previous matches.

Right now, almost nobody in the US actually cares about the US basketball team. They're not our best players, and they've only been assembled for about 3 weeks. (?)

It's not like the original "dream team" that was whoopin on teams by 45-50 points every game. Other teams work together all year and face a unique challenge to the latest US Basketball team.

Will they win the gold? I really don't care...I guess I'm indifferent about the whole thing.

Not that I take anything away from the Puerto Rico team....but this is probably a bigger deal there than it is here.

:( I had to read this post, didn't I. I'm watching the game right now and it's 3rd quarter and the Dream Team is down by 20 points. What do you expect from a team that didn't start practicing until 2 weeks ago.

At least my family in Puerto Rico will be happy.

EDIT I meant practice not assembled

Not to sound like Im picking on anyone or anything, But back then, when the USA was winning every single game, all the media and everyone was like, "We are the best, Basketball is our sport, they will never beat us" and the dream team was the best thing in the USA.

Now they lose for the first time in an olympic game and I hear remarks like "Im indiffernt, I don't care, it dosen't matter" What happened to all the enthusiasm, "we can beat anyone" way of thinking. All of the sudden the team loses, and it's not important.

Only sore loser would say those kind of remarks. I know there are a lot of players that did not go to the games (mainly becuase all they care about is the money and puts in question how much patriotism and pride there is in representing USA only a few years after 9-11) But still that team has it's share of superstars like Jefferson, Duncan, Iverson, Lebron, Antony, Odom. Etc.

But all of the sudden USA basketball is not important.

Give me a break. Why can't you guys just accept the fact that All the players are consumed with superstar egos, the ones that didin't want to play in athens have more pride in reciving the $green$ ones than representing their country and last but not least the USA played a horrible game and Puerto Rico capitalized on that and dominated the whole game.

This is a blow to the USA Olympic team and it's record. And it really should be a big deal over there. All of the sudden your (109?-3) olympic record is not important any more? I don't belive that. I hope the players that are absent open up their eyes and start representing their country the're so much "proud'' of. and really step it up in 2008.

I mean... For crying out loud, You guys invented the sport. The rest of the world is expecting nothing nothing but the best. It's disapointin just to see the direction the team is going.

I just finished watching the game and reading your post, Puerto Rico earned that win. I'm just sad that the Dream Team waited until two weeks before the Olympics to get together to practice. Cocky? Maybe. They played great games throughtout the years and managed to play a good game today. Puerto Rico just played a sronger game.

Goce la victoria!

Listen, I'm not being a poor sport here. The US basketball team has been discussed very sparingly other than the difficulty they had in assembling a team that wanted to play.

If we would get our best, it wouldn't be an issue....and it wouldn't be close.

We're not sending our best...we didn't for years before 1994 when the first dream team was assembled.

I was listening to Jim Rome (a national sports talk radio show), and he was talking about how the US just doesn't care or seems indifferent about our national team. To us the real contest is in the NBA....and even that ranks # 3 or 4 in national sports depending on who you ask.

Like I said...the victory was well earned by Puerto Rico...I didn't want you to think that it wasn't. It's just that Puerto Ricans think it's wonderful right now, where as most of us couldn't care less. :)

I'm with ya. The only reason I care a "smidgen" is that I want the USA to win anthing it does. :)

My feelings exactly, Brad.

Wait, you mean the Olympics have started?

That shows my level of interest this year.

1) I do not care about basketball AT ALL.

2) I do not think that ANY professional athletes should play in the Olympics, period.

3) What are the USA stars giving up? NOTHING. They are playing in the summer, not during the NBA basketball season.

4) The USA team (and other NBA stars who are playing for their home team if the USA isn't their home country) are playing for the MEDALS, and bragging rights. Sure, they can say they've always wanted to play in the Olympics, but then see MHO #2.

4) After the "Dream Team" destroyed the other teams the first time that pro athletes were allowed to play in the olympics, most of us have joined the "I don't care" opinion because since it's already been done, so we don't care. (Plus see MHO #1)

Hey Look. They won another one!

ATHENS, Greece (AP) -- LeBron James eyed Shawn Marion's pass coming toward him and made a split-second decision to redirect the ball. One nifty touch pass later, Dwyane Wade converted it into a layup.

The basket broke the last tie and began a game-changing 10-point run at the start of the fourth quarter, leading United States to a 89-79 victory over Australia on Thursday.

The win might have been a big step toward reversing the fortunes of a U.S. team that struggled to beat Greece and was embarrassed by Puerto Rico in a 19-point loss.

"Everything's not clicking yet, but we're heading that way," Tim Duncan said. "It was a great learning experience today being able to fight back and staying with each other."
