old ticket upgrade question

I have a question that I am sure someone out there can answer for me. I found some old Disney Tickets from about 20 yrs ago. I emailed a copy of them to Disney and they got back to me saying I have some 4 day hopper tickets that were never used. I asked Disney if I can upgrade them to an 8 day Hopper and they told me I would only have to pay the difference between a 4 day and 8 day which is only about 40 dollars.

Has anyone ever done this? Is that right, I only have to pay the 40 dollars because my original ticket is already a hopper ticket ???

This is such a big savings for me if this is true.

Thank you

Yes, non-expired tickets are still valid for admission and upgrades. You'll just have to exchange them for the new media.

Really? I thought all I could do with these was use the unexpired days. Wooba!

In 2007 when my son arrived a few days early to enter the college program and he didn't have a CM status to enter parks yet. I sent him down with his old child hopper pass from when he was 3 or 4. He took it, looked at me like I was from Mars and to his delight the Momma was right they gave him the 2 days to enter the park in adult form. He was a happy camper.

Tickets are tickets to Disney. It's no different than upgrading recently purchased tickets that have yet to expire.

Thank you! Never even thought of that.

My second Duh moment of the day. I should start to view my Duh moments as look what I learned today moments and I'd feel better.

Just a quick add to this. In December we took 2 old park hopper type tickets to guest relations. We were given park hoppers for the remaining days, no questions asked. These were paper tickets that were stamped daily back in 1993!! I think they were called "passport to the world" tickets. My in laws found them in a drawer at their home and since we have fl season passes, we just wanted to have these for our guests. No issues, no questions. Good luck!!

That is the ticket media we have here. We then moved onto length of stay passes when my kids reached age considered adult. Length of Stay media had a Junior rate from 10-17 when you purchased a vacation package, saved a lot of money for us over the years. Good old fashioned date stamp and you were in the park, no feeding the ticket and measuring your fingers.

Sometimes I wonder how big of problem Disney fixed with all the contraptions they have come up with to enter the parks. A solution to a problem that didn't exist, considering how many guests go into the parks each day and the incredibly small fraction that did some elicit. Same with parking. Yeah some beat the system but really, given the vast amount of cars coming in, how many are really skating in free by cheating to
warrant the hassle to AP holders now?

I'm not sure if you'll be able to upgrade them. According to this, pre-MYW tickets can be used, not upgraded.

https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/faq/tickets/upgrades/

This was also my understanding of the policy on handling pre-MYW tickets... They'll put them on new media for you to use with the new ticketing system, but they'll only be what they currently are and cannot be upgraded.

That being said, there's zero harm in going to Guest Relations at a park (or Downtown Disney) and asking them what your options are. The worst they can say is that you're stuck with them as-is.
