i was watching a video of my first trip to wdw in 1991 during the 20th aniversay. and there is a part that shows a show on the castle fourcourt stage with a live band and live singers, but also many character voices. i was just curious how they were able to syncronise the live band and singers with the recorded character voices. if it helps at all the only set peice i could see was a yellow arch with mickey as the "keystone". if any one has any info about this show it would be really cool. thanks

I believe the show you're refering to is Disneymanina. It had different musical numbers with a bunch of Disney characters like Mary Poppins and Bert, Winnie the Pooh, Cruella De Vil, and of course Mickey and friends (among others). I don't know how they syncronized the voices with the live band, but the certainly did do a good job at it.

The show would have been Disneymania, featuring "The Kids of the Kingdom". IMHO it was a better show than the current castle show, due to the energy of the cast and the live music.

I took some shots of this and the Every day’s a Holiday show. Some of which can be seen at www.geocities.com/barnum42/castle.htm

The only live voices were at a couple of points when a solo Kid from the Kingdom used a mike. Any chorus singing was taped with the cast holding fake mikes. As far as sync goes, any musician worth their salt can follow a singer – whether they are on tape of live. The bands for these shows were top notch.

The Drummer and conductor have headphones on and he hears a "Beat" track. It is the drummer's responsibiliy to keep the band in sync with the beat so that the music stays in sync with the recorded tracks. Once the band is in sync then teh singers are.
