Hi all.

Could anyone who has stayed at Old Key West before, give me a little insight on it?

I'll be staying there for the 1st time in September. I always stay at the All Stars, and love the Disney atmosphere there.

I'm a bit concerned with all I've been reading about the "laid back atmosphere" of OKW. Does it still have the Disney feel to it? What's the help there like? Is there a great place (preferably outside) to have a few drinks at night? What time does it stay open? The All Stars have a bar by the pool that's open to midnight and I love hanging there at night for a couple of beverages.

How about the gift shop? Does it have the standard stuff - Post Cards, photo albums, Disney Books, movies, plush, stuff like that?

I stayed at OKW about 8 years ago, and I would have to agree that out of all of the resorts, it is the one that seems to scream DISNEY the least. It is a very nice place though, with definatley the Disney touches still. Cast members are just as nice as any resort. The rails on the decks all have Mickey heads cut out of them so there is still Disney there. You can also take a boat to Downtown Disney as well. Room sizes are great!! There is a bar there, but I am not sure about the hours. I hope this helps.

I only stay at OKW because I am a Vacation Club Member (best thing I ever did). It has the Disney feel, but not as much as the other resorts. It is a beautiful resort on a golf course and the rooms are great. The studio room is similar to a regular room but larger than the All Stars rooms and the 1 and 2 bedroom rooms are incredible.

It is the "home away from home" resort so you have all the amenities of being home. Full kitchen, washer/dryer, 32" tv w/dvd player, whirlpool tub, etc. It is a great resort and I love staying there, but it doesn't have the same feel as some of the other resorts. There are not Disney characters all over the place, but I truly love staying there.

It's not a real "party" type resort, but you are close to Downtown Disney for all your partying needs :D

I'll be back at OKW in 121 days. :sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy:

Yeah.. we go there ever year, and it is really fantastic, but it doesn't yell 'disney.' There is a small bar.. I think.. by the pool, but it doesn't stay open very long. However.. DTD is not very far away. The gift shop is nice. It has the standard stuff. It is a really nice resort to get away from all the chaos and such. But.. if you are really set on being surrounded by disney characters and the like all the time.. OKW probably isn't the best place to go.. even though it is a beautiful resort.

I'll be back in OKW in 18 More days!

Yeah, that's what I figured.

Oh well, I'll have 3 nights at the All Star Movies. Then, 5 nights at OKW. We just got a really good deal there, so decided to check it out.

You're right though - DTD is right there for my partying needs. And I don't spend a lot of time at the resort anyways.

I just like to hang by the pool bar at night and have a drink or 2, that's all.

I am a DVC member, I have stayed at all mod resorts, and many deluxe, but never a value. OKW is very Disney, very beatiftul and fun, but it doesn't "scream" anything. That is part of the charm. It is relaxing and charming, very Florida. I don't forget for a mintue I am at Disney, but it isn't in middle of all the action, more of a place to get away from it all, but close to the action. The gift shop is good, the restrant is good, but pricey for such a laid back place. There is a little take out food place by the pool. They are adding a new sand castle water slide to the main pool this fall, it will be done around 2005 I think. There are many other pools and the resort is rather large. There is a real vacation club feel to the place, the cast members are great, saying "Welcome Home" all over the place. Their are family pictures of DVC members vacation all over the restant, community hall and almost anywere they fit. It is very cute.

The rooms are not comparable to a vaule, even the smallest and cheapest is are much better (a studio) give you "home away from home" comforts. This makes up for not having a food court, do a stop at the store and save yourself 100's $ on smiple foods, snacks, pop and water (eat breakest in the room most days, it really adds up and gets you out into the park faster.)

Going from AS to OKW will be great. However I don't think OKW compares to say the other deluxe resorts (being spread out like a mod resort with many bus stops and long walking distance.) To many people "There is no place like home" and for them OKW is it. Givin the choice we go for BCV, second VWL (our home resort.)
