Old Key West question

My family and I are going to be staying at OKW on are next trip in June. Are home resort in SSR and we really enjoy it there but we thought it might be fun to change it up a bit. The only reason we choose OKW over all others was the fact we really enjoy the boat ride over to DTD and knew that OKW & SSR share the same boat ride. So my question (or maybe I should have said questions) is, what makes OKW unique from SSR or other DVC resorts? In your opinion is it better then SSR? I will say this as one of our concerns, with it being an "older" resort, we are worried that it might be worn down especially comparing it to a "newer" resort like SSR. Am I wrong in the regard as well? I welcome all comments.

OKW is the original DVC resort (it used to just be called the Disney Vacation Club Resort). I think the rooms are probably bigger, given that it's the original. The biggest difference is really the theme and your preferences. If you like a tropical theme, you'd like OKW but not VWL, for instance.

OKW --

  • Offers the largest rooms of all DVC resorts! Feels like home
  • Condo/townhouse style setup; standalone, not attached to a hotel
  • Quiet, relaxed, lushly landscaped setting
  • Has very convenient self parking directly in front of units
  • Large, very spread out resort (distance of rooms from dining and services)
  • Oldest DVC resort
  • Boat service and walkway to DTD
  • Most rooms have good views: golf course, water/canal, woods
  • Four swimming pools
  • Limited onsite dining (Olivia’s café)
  • No room service (just pizza delivery)
  • Outdoor hallways
  • Community hall
  • Most buildings lack an elevator (only 3 have them)
