Old Key West Pool

Hi! Since the Beach Club Villas opened in early July DVC members are no longer able to hop the coolest pool in WDW at the Yacht and Beach Club. My family are DVC members at OLD KEY WEST and we were all disappointed by this new rule? Was anyone else?

It probably OK with Boardwalk Villas Members and Wilderness Lodge Villas Members because both of those hotels have great themed pools with slides. Old Key West however has got squat. We may have three small pools but noneare anywhere close to the Yacht and Beach Club pool. It's just like the pool in my backyard as far as I'm concerned. Not even a slide. let me know what you guys and girls think about this. Please put in some suggestions for the pool area if you got them. If your an Old Key West DVC member. Write a letter to Eisner and express your disappointment. I did!!!!

the theme of OKW is a laid back, relaxed resort town. The pool keeps me cool. If I want slides I go to the waterparks. Or when my parents come down for business they stay at the Yacht Club.

I wish I had a pool in my backyard. Heck, I wish I had a backyard.

Anyway, go poolhop at the new Polynesian or Grand Floridian pool. Can we go there? Those have great themes. Of course you COULD stay at the Beach Club Villas and use the Beach Club pool.

DVC members, as part of their membership priveledges are allowed to pool hop to a variety of resorts within Walt Disney World. However, they are no longer allowed to Pool Hop to Stormalong Bay at the YC/BC. They are also not currently allowed to pool hop to AKL either. However as long as crowds permit, they are allowed to pool hop to the other resorts, provided they are currently staying in a DVC resort as members..

Yea, I knew that. I guess I didn't read the post well enough. I didn't realize how much of this was centered around DVC. Normal resort guests aren't supposed to pool hop at all.

boy I miss thoes early days when you could go to any of the pools you wanted to. I guess it was because the early resorts are/were all delux resorts.

One question to they check your resort ID??

Are you SURE about this? I read the DVC website recently. They did mention stormalong bay, but they didn't mention AKL. Is the restriction gone, or did they forget to mention it?

And to Nifty, yes we are allowed to pool hop to GF an Polynesian pools.

I'm in the process of joining DVC. I was under the impression that you can stay at resorts other than your home resort. Is it that difficult to get in at one of the other resorts? If not, why not just stay there and use the pool?

Dreamer, I am a DVC member too, and actually I have tried out staying at 'other' Disney resorts twice as often as my 'home' resort. It is just as easy to do this thru DVC as it is to stay at your 'home' resort. The only main difference is how far ahead you can book your vacation (home resort - 11 months ahead; other DVC resorts - 7 months ahead). As for pool hopping, yes I have heard that we can't hop to AKL right now (not sure where I heard it from), and I definitely know that you can't hop to BCV. But all the other pools are fair game.

To be honest with you, I am not 100% sure about AKL. In 10 years of membership, I don't think we have ever pool hopped anywhere, so I don't pay much attention to this aspect of the membership. The last I heard, AKL pool hopping was not allowed. This could have changed recently, but I don't recall hearing it had.

From what I hear, it isn't all that difficult to trade out with your DVC points and stay in one of the WDW resorts. However, one thing to consider is the amount of points it takes to stay in a non-DVC resort. Many people enjoy this feature of DVC membership, others don't find the point cost worth it. Remember a room in say, GF would cost as much points as a 2 bedroom at OKW which is about 3 times the size.. We have never traded out of the DVC, in fact in 10 years we have only stayed at OKW. We love it there so much, we haven't had any desire to stay in one of the other DVC resorts.

Questions regarding pools and resorts

Do older kids have more to do at stormalong bay than they do at the boardwalk villas theme pool? Overall, which resort would be more fun for pre-teens?

Do stormalong and the boardwalk theme pool have kiddie pools for 2-3 year olds?

Our next trip will be spent at least half out of the parks -- pools, Downtown Disney, restaurants. We want a resort with fun stuff for the kids.
