'Ohana & Wispering Canyon Restaurant???

Whispering Canyon & 'Ohana Restaurant????

Hi all,

I am considering going to these restaurants during my stay at WDW during the week of June 15 - June 21, 2003. I have heard really good things about the 'Ohana "buffet style" food. I have made a PS reservation for 'Ohana at 7:15pm on June 15. While make that PS reservation, the lady on the phone (who was VERY, VERY, VERY nice and helpful...sorry, didn't get her name) mentioned something about the Whispering Canyon restaurant. It sounds pretty interesting and fun.

Is there anyone out there that can give me more feedback on these two restaurants. I would greatly appreciate it.

As usual...thanks in advance for all your help. You guys are truly AWESOME!

P.S. One more thing...to the Administrator...don't ever take this board away for so long again! I thought I was going to go stir crazy. During the whole "down-time" I actually had to do some work while at the office. That's not suppose to happen!

antoine, I love Ohana. I had been to WDW many times, but my last trip was the first time i had been to Ohana. The food is outstanding and the service is great. If you like meat, and grilled meat, you will love it. Also, the pineapple desert is great. It is now my favorite place to eat at WDW. :animwink:

GREAT CHOICES ANTOINE!!!! we at at Ohanas twice last year on two different trips all the food is yummy and they keep refilling the food until you burst make sure you save room for the pinapple and caramel sauce its so yummy maybe you will get lucky enough like we did last time to get a window seat ( we didnt even request it) and got to see the castle and we were there for the fireworks its was awesome and we didnt even have to fight crowds to see it

Whispering Canyon Cafe is another one of our favorites when we are going in july for my husbands birthday he requested to eat there on his birthday the all u can eat platter is very very good I love the ribs the sausage and everything else thats on it and they have all you can drink milkshakes that are so thick its like eating icecream instead of a shake its yummy and its so much fun in there and if you want to see different menus just go to www.wig.com they have all the menus from all the restaurants there

have a wonderful trip and hope to hear your report on it when you come back

Antoine - You definitely picked two of the best. We had so much fun at Whispering Canyon last year. We didn't get the all you can eat buffet, we ordered dinners and they were all excellent!! There were seven of us and most of us ordered different things. The food was just awesome!!! Also, O'hana's is a must every time we go. We eat there all the time........we can't go to Disney without going to O'hana's......you picked two of the best!!!!!!:sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy:

Antoine,
We haven't done O'Hana's, but we have done Whispering Canyon twice. The food is really good, and you can really overdo it if you aren't careful. The 'ribs' have a tendency to stick around with you all day long the next day, but still a great place to eat and have fun! Have a great time!

Antoine,

Both restaurants are wonderful, each in their own way.

'Ohana has wonderful food that they just keep bringing and bringing to your table (it's not "buffet style", closer to "family style"). The appetizers are great, the grilled meat is even better (the peanut dipping sauce is great on the turkey!), there's live entertainment, and during the MK fireworks, they turn the lights down and pipe in the music.

Whispering Canyon is loud, busy, and has wonderful food. They do all kinds of fun activities, including the hourly Pony Express ride for the kids (the pledge they take before getting their certificates is hilarious). Just whatever you do, don't ask for ketchup!

And if you're looking for the site that tiggerlover mentioned (but typoed), the menus are here .

I can´t remember if I had eaten at WC... but I LOVE Ohana´s!! The food is delicious, very abundant, and that banana bread baked in their wood oven is real good! You will love it! :slurp: :slurp:

LOL!

I about died when I went to the link that Tig posted. It was a link on wigs (some very nice ones might I add)!

Maria, did you mention something about banana nutbread. Oh please, never mention that around me. I LOVE banana nutbread. In fact, I have two banana nutbread muffins a day (reduced fat of course!!!) I hope they still have the banana nutbread when I get there.

Man, we are really excited about our upcoming trip. Seems like since we called and got our PS for 'Ohana, things are finally coming into perspective. Now, I am getting ready to call and pay my final payment!!! YAHOOOOOO!!!!!!! Soon the documents will be here (okay, I won't hold my breath on that one).

Okay, enough rambling on. I hope you all have a wonderful day. Take care all!

Love the Whispering Canyon...don't ask for ketchup or a straw. If they don't bring them do without!!! We like it best for breakfast, but the dinner skillet is great, too. We usually don't eat a big meal in the evening. Tried Ohana last Easter break for the first time and it was great, it has been added to our list our "must do" for every trip! Either way you won't be disappointed.

Ohana is great! I think I've only missed it on one trip!
The food is great and the atmosphere is spectatular.
I don't have any children but I do like watching them when the MC calls the kids out to hula hoop or play coconut croquet.
Whispering Canyon is excellent too. The BBQ all-you-can-eat is very filling (bring your appetite). The atmosphere isn't as spectacular as Ohana but the staff is definitely more rowdy and fun.

Because if you ask for either your waiter will yell through out the whole restaurant that you need it and make a big annoying scene until someone brings you some. It's stupid, but the food is good.

Disclaimer--I was last at 'Ohana in Jan 2002. Things may have changed.

It isn't banana nut bread they serve at 'Ohana. It is a sweet heavenly yeast bread unlike anything I have had before. The closest thing would be King's Hawaiian bread, but this stuff is MUCH fresher and tastier.

You will be tempted to eat way too much of this.

The potstickers are to die for!! We asked for seconds on them.

You can't go wrong with 'Ohana.

Our waiter came out, said, "here's your straws" and THREW THEM ALL OVER US! Straws were everywhere, all over the table, the floor, our seats!

Our son-in-law asked for ketchup and our waiter squirted fake stringy ketchup all over his shirt!

I don´t find that any funny or entertaining, but that´s just me and my family. I´d never go to a place where the fun is seeing how the waiters treat rudely and make fun of people that could as well be myself. *shakes head*

It's not annoying, really, we had so much fun there. If you find it annoying, I wouldn't go. My daughter ordered beans and then she asked if she could have a little more, when they brought it, had had it in a huge pot. And announced that anyone staying at the hotel near the 5th floor was in for it tonight. We had such a laugh. It was great. You have to have a sense of humor or you won't like it. Just go with it and have fun.

Whispering Canyon is a really great time and has great food. never miss it i=on a trip.
Im a little dissapointed with yhe ketchup and straw supprises being given away here, but there are still more.
also, do you think some one that thinks the waitstaff having a good time with the guests is rude? Maybe that person should lighten up a little and enjoy the show or just not go.

Oh, we were not at all offended. In fact, we had a large family group and I had printed out the scripted "prompts" (sort of) from another website (which shall remain nameless). All of us knew which questions and statements would trigger a response from our waiter, ergo, a great time was had by all! If anyone however, is looking for a quiet dinner for two, avoid the WC if at all possible!;)
