Ohana: Dinner or Breakfast?

I'm holding on to two Ohana reservations right now. One for dinner, one for breakfast and will likely only go once. Party of 3 adults and 2 small children (neither of whom have seen Lilo and Stitch). Which to keep?

We've done the dinner several times, and the breakfast once. Unless you have kids who are really into those specific characters the breakfast is nothing special.

Thanks guys. That's absolutely not what I was expecting you to say or the way I was leaning, so definitely good to hear!
You can show them LILO and Stitch on short YouTube videos or something first. But even if they aren't familiar, chances are they will still love it. Goofy leads a Congo line where the children (and adults) can join in, everyone is given maracas, it's adorable!

Edit to add-- Bonus- there's a photographer there, for Stitch only, but it's extra points to me when photo pass photogs are at a meal.

Hmm... Now I wonder if I should just go ahead and try to do both.

Are you staying at the Polynesian?

If so, I highly recommend ordering room service for whichever meal you don't choose. It's from Kona Cafe, not Ohana, but a great meal! Both restaurants are very good...I just liked the comfort of eating in our pjs while watching the EWP.

Agreed, Kona is a great meal. Great desserts too!

It's worth a try! They're very different experiences. Food-wise, it's probably my least favorite character breakfast, but it's always a fun time. The characters are great, kids get maracas and can join a little parade around the restaurant every half hour or so, and the POG juice is excellent.

As for dinner, it's the ADR I look forward to most. Service can be hit or miss but I just love the food. Kids can order a kids meal (burgers, fries, hot dog, mac and cheese, etc) and are welcome to eat off the platters as well. There are some kids activities at dinner also (coconut races and a live entertainer who interacts with them). You really can't go wrong with either meal, so try both if it fits your schedule. Happy planning!

For sure! We did one room service breakfast of the macadamia pineapple pancakes (my favorite), Tonga toast, and coffee (I love their coffee!!)...and then another for dinner consisting of a few apps..1 meals to split, and a couple deserts. So good!!

I wish. We are staying at AoA, so additionally there will be the trip there, which makes it non-trivial.

Then I'd do breakfast.. Mainly because of the "young kids". You can do dinner at Ohana at any age. My opinion, anyway. Can't really go wrong with either though! :)

I just feel like anytime you can get photo with characters, and not wait in line..a meal is totally worth it!

we did both last time we were staying at the
Poly in April. We were on free dining but both were great. we booked the breakfast for our last morning there and that was nice to have something to look forward to.
In my opinion the food for dinner is amazing and one of the best experiences at WDW. The food for the breakfast was ok, but the character interactions made it special...

'Ohana has a very unique, special atmosphere, but much more so in the dark.
During the day it's nice, but not as exceptional as in the evening.
Plus the food for dinner is something you're much less likely to find elsewhere.

We've done both -- in our case, dinner was a rousing success, while breakfast was just "meh."

Specifically, the breakfast was a big letdown and we were sorry we'd wasted our time and money on it. Character interactions were ridiculously rushed -- Stitch, who was the character we'd come to see, sort of ran by once and patted my son's head, but ran away so quickly that by the time I'd raised my camera from my lap to my face to get a picture of them together, he was gone. The food -- fresh fruit, waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage, etc. -- was all served room-temperature and had clearly been plated long before our arrival. Not only that, but it was pretty much all standard breakfast fare we could've found at dozens of other places on property. Service at breakfast was frustratingly sluggish and lackluster. (Although the meal was supposed to be all-you-care-to-enjoy, our server was nowhere to be found when it came time to ask for refills of anything -- even my coffee -- so our family of four actually left hungry after finishing our small, initial portion of tepid food, along with a couple of extra Mickey waffles the kids obtained by flagging down another server.)

(That being said, obviously our issues with the 'Ohana breakfast stemmed more from poor service by restaurant staff and the charcter-handler CMs than anything else -- as such, YMMV.)

In contrast, dinner at 'Ohana (which we've done twice) was terrific, with more unique food options served in more ample portions (grilled meats on skewers, pork dumplings, sticky wings, salad, stir-fried veggies with lo mein, banana bread pudding with a caramel sauce), consistently good service, and a singing ukelele player who circulated the dining room and led the kids in a hula-inspired Conga line. On both occasions, we've all left full and happy. My only complaint about dinner was that we always seem to have to wait for 15+ minutes to be seated -- however, that's commonplace at many Disney restaurants, so it doesn't put a damper on our experience -- you just have to be prepared for it.
