OH may be made redundant.

Hi Guys,

There's no advice to be given but I just want to off load a bit!

My OH works for a small logistic company that work for a LARGE UK chain store, the Chain Store has just been sold to a famous UK millionaire. He visited the premises last week and was un-impressed, the factory is pretty much a run down shack! Plus this man is known for buying companies and getting rid of 'hangers on'. He is more than likely to get rid of the third party companies that are associated with the store and start his own.

My OH's managers heve said this is the likely outcome. Although life may be tough for a while the thing that is really bothering me is that there is now a posibility we won't be able to save for our 2 yearly trip to Florida in 2014, our trip this Sept could be the last one for some time.

A really annoying factor is that this millionaire drives a CHROME car worth £350,000. This must pretty much be like playing monopoly to him!

That totally sucks. I don't know what the economy is like over there but in the states it's still pretty tough to find a new job. I'm hoping the gazillionaire has a heart but it doesn't sound like he will. We've been through thoughts of putting off our trips recently because my husband was out of work. One of the things you may want to consider is trimming a few costs from your current trip in order to get a head start saving for the next one, whenever it may be. I saw in another thread you were considering switching from GF due to all of he construction - maybe switch to WL instead of Poly? It's much less expensive and from what people say (my first trip there will be in a few months) - it's an amazing resort. Good luck - I hope it works out ok!!

I am sorry to hear this. Not having Job Security can really a scary situation. I know it will be difficult but, try not to dwell on the negative be proactive, before the hammer falls get the resume out there! How many people work with your OH, remember, they will be looking for jobs to, moving swiftly is key.

It's a shame these big time money men have no feelings toward the everyday Joe. Unfortunately this is business, big business for him. There is nothing anyone can do to change that.

Not being able to save for your 2014 trip will be terribly fustrating, I am sure. Disney will alway be there and you will get back in time. Think Positive and BE Positive and you may be suprised how quickly you return.

I think around 50 people work at the factory, he won't just leave and find a new job, he will wait or he will lose his redundantcy pay, this could be months away but its not knowing when thats annoying! Thanks

I realize that being laid-off (being made redundant) is a harsh difficulty that carries implications far beyond the effects on a Disney vacation. I hope that this works out well in the days ahead.

Oh I meant WL!

I read in another thread that rooms on the 5th or 6th floor in the block 042-066 may possibly have views of the fireworks over the trees. I obviously am not the authority since I've never been but I wanted to pass that along in case you are interested in requesting a room (I have it in my calendar to request mine! ) .

Sorry to hear that! No jobs are really "safe" anymore in the UK are they? I really hope it doesn't come to closure of the factory. It is the waiting that is the worst though, putting plans on hold is never fun. I wish you all the best and fingers crossed there is a good outcome.

Lol! I want as high a floor as possible and the best view of Bay Lake! I will ask for this at check in!

Even if your room doesn't face that way, you can open the shutters in the hall and see them from there. When we stayed there, we did that with a very nice security guard who told us that she does this often.
