Oh Disney World... What Happened to you?

*This thread is mostly a rant.. you have been warned*

I remember a time when 'Disney' and 'quality' went hand in hand. A time when Walt Disney World, and the Disney company in general, represented the pinnacle of entertainment. Those times are gone. Currently Disney seems to be in a downward spiral where making money fast trumps everything. The glory days are behind us, all that is left is a fading glimmer from the classics that barely hang on.

Disney cast members (employees) are some of the greatest people you will ever meet, the ones you CAN meet anyway. The people on the ground deal with bad weather, screaming/cursing guests, unruly/undisciplined children, long hours, and average or below average pay and still manage to be the friendliest and most helpful people you will ever meet. They are this way because the remember and still believe in the legend of Disney, the stories you had when you were a child, and want other people to experience it too. However, once you get away from the guest areas things change. The people in charge are THE reason Disney has lost its luster. Many of the managers have little to no experience leading and seem to be chosen for their ability to kiss-up. The people at the top seem to care nothing for the legacy or the people below them, instead lining their pockets as much as possible. The most recent case is the massive bonus' top people got while those same people were cutting hours for everyone else and crying about budget problems due to Shanghai. These are the same people that have destroyed the high Disney standard with attractions like "Frozen Ever After", the newest ride to hit EPCOT. The ride is nothing more than a gutted older attraction with a few nice animatronics and some songs. The decor within the ride is sparse, the sound-system is quiet, and the ride breaks down on a regular basis.

The Disney World parks also suffer from their age. EPCOT in particular shows its age everywhere, but nowhere more than "Ellen's energy adventure" where the same dinosaurs have been doing their thing since it first opened (except for the ones that broke and were completely removed leaving a gap or statue behind). Rides like "Expedition Everest" and even "Splash Mountain" have anamatronics that rarely work.

Between the old stuff wearing out, and the new additions being lack-luster I don't see Walt Disney World holding onto its magic for much longer. Hopefully the leaders will get their acts together and go back to Walt's way before its too late. I don't see how the current trend of "prices up... quality down" will work in the long run.

..I'm not even gonna go into the movies... I will say that it scares me when "Frozen" is sited as people's favorite Disney Movie. Why should they make movies like "Beauty and the Beast" or "Lion King" when junk like "Frozen" is what people seem to want... its really, very sad...

Every time somebody speaks about an attraction that has not changed in decades, for many it is the first time they ever seen the attraction.

The problem with Walt Disney World is they can cut back, not update and charge $100+ per person but the parks stay filled to capacity. Me if I owned Disney Stock I say ..... good job Disney.

I hate Frozen too but the kids liked it.

I just say this to the OP , Go back 8 or 9 years ago to Universal Florida and remember how run down that place was and what less than a decade of work did to it.

I think Magic kingdom is still great. Hollywood studios is looking to get a big over haul and Animal Kingdom (a park that has always been meh to me) is finishing up a big addition. Hopefully at the next d23 we get news about big expansions to Epcot.

of course some of the things us die hards will love and some we will hate but that is par for the course

I have not been to Disney since 2010 so guess I will have to see what happens in September. I guess I can only think positive and hope for the best.

I admit that I am not a fan of Disney's latest movies and it seems they keep coming up with stories for what I consider to be more unneeded princesses. What are they up to now...10 or so? I am sure some will disagree but I do see it as overkill.

11 official. Anna and Elsa are not part of the Disney Princess line yet. Besides, we've had a good deal of non-Princess movies- Wreck-It Ralph, Big Hero 6, Zootopia...

No need to hope for the best. We just returned 2 weeks ago from the world and I can say everything looked great. The Cm's were great, the rides looked good. The only bad thing we delt with all week was the heat but you'll have that going to Florida in July.

You know you're going to get accused of being a pixie duster, right? ;)
I say "bring it on!"

Ok.. I can complain that the pool water was a little too warm. Or my legs got way to sore walking so much, Disney shouldn't have made so many things to see. Ok, I got one. There was a CM at Space Mountain that wasn't happy. :) All joking aside, sure there are things I'd like to see change but nothing affected our trip or ruined our trip. I tend to be a person that see's the good and dances around Disney with my arms spread wide. Screw the grumps :D

I think we've been to Disney 5 times over the last 20 years. The quality has gone down in my opinion making it a little less enjoyable. Much of this I would attribute to the increased crowds. I wish there were a few less stores (I mean how much stuff do you need). The costs have increased greatly too as we all know. But I will say that when we go to another city to an amusement park it is quite costly as well and park isn't as beautiful and clean. They don't have any theming, just rides. No fireworks and the workers are not in the same category of cast members. And good luck finding good food.
