Official Contest Rules

Contests will run from Friday-Thursday 11:59pm PACIFIC TIME, submissions after this time will not be included. An individual thread will be created for each contest.

1 submission per member, per contest. Once you post your picture, you can not replace it. You can not re-use the same entry in multiple contests.

Pictures can be taken with any type of camera (film or digital)

Pictures can not be altered in any way, except to adjust size, crop, or add your own personal watermark. This is a photography contest, not a photo-editing contest.

Pictures must be of acceptable dimensions and file size for this site.

Pictures can be taken at any time for any contest (if you visited in April, you can use those pictures for any future contest that interests you).

Pictures must be taken by the member submitting the entry, and not by a family member or by a cast member.

Voting will begin within 24 hours of the contest's end.
If 20 or less people participated, 1 poll will be posted, and it will be open for 6 days.
If more than 20 entries exist, the entries will be divided into similar-sized groups, and will be listed in the order that they were submitted. The preliminary polls will be open for 4 days. The top 3 entries (and entries with votes equal to the third place entry in the SAME poll) from each preliminary poll will advance to a final poll, which will remain open for 3 days.

No breaking of park rules or common etiquette to take your pictures. (no accessing restricted areas, no flash photography on attractions which do not allow it....stuff like that)

The overall subject of the contest is "Disney". Although some contests are specific to areas of Walt Disney World, anything "Disney related" can be taken for other contests, including, but not limited to, other Disney parks. For contests like the "Adventureland photo contest", any Disney park's Adventureland would be accepted.

Most of all, this is all for FUN.

This sounds like a great idea to me Speck! This way we can cater to everyone on here that makes only a trip every year or every several of years as you said.

Also, will this be in place of other contests or just add to them? I think we should have themed contests as well...landscaping, transportation, architect, Disney icons, etc still, too.

I'd be willing to help out on this, you know how to contact me.

I can't wait to participate and have a better chance with more categories now.

Great Idea. Everyone will know what contest is coming up and can take photos to fill in the different months on their trip.

Just curious - why the no adjustment rule? I often change the colour and brightness/contrast to get a better result. I also sometimes blur the background / foreground to bring the subject out a little bit.

Keep more people on a level playing field.......most people can take a picture with different degrees of success, but not everyone is an expect at photo-editing.

We are looking for the best photograph, not the best editing job.

^ Boo to that;)

This sounds interesting. Although I'm better at photo manipulation, I'll try to take some nice pics in a couple of days:)

Since nobody is sending me ideas, it is too early to rule out all manipulation. We can always have certain contests that could require manipulation, or have it optional based on certain subjects.

Does it have to be WDW.... what about DLP/TDL?
(Common, they look exactly the same)

Depending on the contest......they all have to be Disney related, most would be able to be shot at any Disney park, but some may be WDW specific.

I like the idea of no photo manipulation. I think it will draw more entries.

I also like your idea about theming the contests based on the calendar. You could have an overall theme for the month (such as Valentine's Day for February), then have specific subjects for each week (such as the picture must have a heart in it or must show a couple in love). Regardless of the theme/subject, each picture must have some Disney element to it - either taken on property or with easily recognizable and prominently displayed Disney items in it.

For your June theme (celebrating Donald Duck's birthday), one subject could be Donald himself must be in the picture. Another could be temper tantrums, as Donald can be on the ornery side. Another could be triplets (in honor of Huey, Dewey, and Louie) and every picture must have "three of a kind" in it.

Is this what you were looking for with regards to suggestions?

Great ideas! I will post a preliminary calendar tomorrow night, and we can get rid of the crappy ideas, and hopefully some of the ideas will spur some imagination for more ideas.

Brad, I'm all for no digital manipulation, but I feel that how Dave labeled it in his photo contests was better, allowing for minor touchups (ie- if you can't do it in the darkroom, it's not allowed). Just a thought.

I like the idea of having an approximate calendar a year in advance, so a person on a once-a-year trip (like me) can take pics with the future contest themes in mind.

Edit: also to fill in the weeks that don't have an immediately apparent theme, what about contests for well-known park icons? We all have a million pics of the castle, but what about a contest to get the most unique shot featuring the castle in some prominent way?
