Hi all, I'm planning a Disney vacation in March (around the 20th) and was wondering if anyone had opinions about any offsite resorts, right now i'm looking at a Best Western lakeside but i'm curious as to your advice on this and crowd levels for this period.

go for it..

we stayed at a Hampton Inn near the south exit. we also stayed at a staybridge suite near the entrance to downtown disney. I think offsite hotels offer more value for the $$..

I stayed once, and only once, inside disney and not looking forward to stay inside again.

some people would talk about the disney experience, the transportation etc.

renting a car in orlando is very cheap, my disney experience in the room was something similar to a motel 6 with a disney theme..or worse.

outside hotels offer breakfast, and that alone can save you up to 3-5 bucks per family member.

my 2 cents.

If all you want is a place to rest your weary head after a full day at the parks then Off-site is the way to go. Spend the money saved in the parks, or to stay longer.

Things to consider - Distance / time to travel to WDW each day, Hotel Shuttle buses or own car, Parking costs.
Or pay extra and stay on site, complimentary transport and no parking fees.
If your not bothered about staying on site - then save $$$ and get a local hotel

marriott world center gets my thumbs up - especially if you get shuttles to the world / universal thrown in the deal also. It is exspensive to eat there however, but the tuscan resturant was stunning! did an excellent capaccio beef salad.

Gigantic beds too!

If you have kids, i would suggest the nick hotel. it is nickelodeon themed and its literally minutes from the park. check it out .not only would you get the disney characters everyday in the park, but also a little twist with spongebob and the fairly odd parents right at your hotel...:sohappy:

good luck!

There are a lot of good choices out there. The Nickelodeon hotel is great for kids. The staybridge suites is a great value for the size of the room. Don't rule out renting a house, that is one of the best values for the money. Check out vrbo.com for rental homes. Hope that helps.

We've stayed onsite at POFQ and POR (when it was Dixie Landings) but every other time we've stayed offsite in a variety of different places. For location, you really can't beat the Marriott Village - particularly the Springhill Suites because you get a microwave/fridge and complimentary b/f and it's literally 5 mins from DTD door to door.

There are so many hotels off-site, it's really about you: the size of your group, and your wallet. That said, if you're looking for a deal, Priceline may be one way to go (tons of info on the net, esp. about Orlando bids). If you're planning an extended stay, you may want a villa/condo, if you can get a good rate. We've used a friend's timeshare deal, tried several different ones in the WDW area, and for the money/extra space and room, just cannot be beat for a week-long stay. FWIW.
