Odyssy in Epcot, rehab?

I was just in Epcot last weekend, and I had an absolute awesome time (of course-its my favorite!). Anyways, as I was walking, I couldn't help but notice the nasty looking Odyssy building. It looks so old and disgusting. What is in there and what has been in there? I simple rehab could make the building look so much better. Are there any plans to do anything to it in the future (maybe even a paint job?)?

Odyssey was a restaurant that opened at EPCOT in the 80s and continued to serve through the 90s. It's been closed for SEVERAL years now, but the bathrooms are still open for guests. Also - several banquets (new years?) are held there now and again.

It IS disgusting outside. . .and it's been like that for so long. Disney should really consider a redo. . . I say, add a small pavilion there.

I've always tried to understand the philosophy behind Disney thinking...
futile, I know...

but, why on earth does Disney insist on leaving open "attractions" that don't bring in any money, vs. ones that literally DO bring in money?

We have all joked about the way they can't resist the urge to squeeze in another cash making idea (ride-photo op's, more shops...can you say Emporium?, vendor stands) but when it comes to closing something like a restaurant, like the Odyssey, it just dosen't add up!

O.K. ...next on the list of sorry attempts to milk the cash cow:

Now serving at the Rocket Tower Plaza: substitutes turkey-legs for the new "Stitch-ka-bobs"!

...ought to be a real hit with the kiddies!

I know that back for New Years, they pass out the free hats and horns there. It is also a great potty break. :D

Good News and Bad News

Here is the good news...I am told that the Odyssy Restaurant will be used in 2004 for the International Storybook Dinner. This dinner is exclusive to the guests traveling with eight or more people and using a Magical Gatherings reservation. The dinner costs $59.99 per person and includes a special viewing area for Reflections of Earth. A Disney story is told at the dinner and then the Disney charcters appear.

Here is the bad news...Disney will not be doing any repairs on the building.

Let me get this straight?

We can't open it because it doesn't bring in any money to support it, but to keep it from getting too nasty for special events, we'll keep the A/C running and a small maint. crew to keep her in sub-par form?

Yeah, I almost forgot...

I'm in Disneyworld!

Odyssy

In my humble opinion is that the Odyssy land and surroundings can be a great place to move Carousel Of Progress and ad it as a new pavillion or sesonal for Epcot, that way they save a Favorite one and bring Tomorrowland to a new level.

It will be great to see a beloved atraction with some new spin (part of the loading platform over water with some Disney magic, and the rest on dry land) with a simulated dome as it was over the NY World Fair that actually can change colors in the night to match SE...

But then is my humble opinion, i could be wrong

This would be a great idea...
IF Disney wanted to spend the money to move the CoP 5 miles. The last time it was moved, it was across the country. It doesn't seem very feasible to move it across the property. Plus, think of the hassle. And what would you put in its place in Tomorrowland? Good idea...just probably not very practical. ;)

Sounds like a great idea...I just don't think it will happen....I think that Odyssey will become either a restuarant (with characters running around all over the place)...or another store...perhaps a pin trading store (to move the little pin place in the middle of the little plaza that separates west and eastsides of FW....

Then again it seems they have a huge chunk of land in and around the Odyssey building...land that they're not using....a ride would be nice....but then again, that type of thinking can lead to disapointment....

*sigh*

Working on The Odyssey that involves removing/remodeling the exterior of the pavillion, will expose a good deal of backstage. Not a big deal, most can be seen from Test Track already.

What I like most about said bathrooms is that the doors have the old 80s EPCOT font on them, probably the only place in the park where you can see it anymore. Seeing that old font please me very much^_^.

Very old show. I would say at least 10 years old. It was around about the same time as Splashtacular.

I would agree...

The last thing needed is another "Character-Dine" restaurant!

Maybe I don'twant Pluto's tail in my chicken alfredo.
