October Visit - Halloween functions

We are new to the whole Disney scene and are completely OVERWHELMED by everything. We are looking to just do a long weekend in October - the 14th through the 17th. Now I see that there is a whole Halloween thing going on then. It mentions needing separate tickets. Is this something different than just purchasing a park ticket? Can you just go to the park and not take advantage of whatever is going on? Since I see that tickets went on sale in May, can we even get park tickets at that time? Help!

Yes, this is a seperate ticketed event known as a hard ticket event. There's trick or treating, some rare characters, and a few other things special to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. You can not just stay in the park as it closes to all those without a ticket at a certain time. Those with a ticket are issued a wristband which CMs check. Tickets should still be available for the time frame you're going. Depending on how many are in your party you may want to consider if the price is even worth it for you. Price for adults (10 and up) is approximately $40.

I've never been so I may be fuzzy on some details. Hopefully someone else can come along who knows a lot more. Also, you may want to check out any info on allearsnet.com or the official Disney website. They'll have the "official" information.

Hey,
Welcome to the boards!
If you are new to Disney and feeling a bit overwhelmed, you have come to the right place. Since you are planning a somewhat short trip, I wouldn't worry with the Halloween party and focus on the other parks, as you will want to take in as much there as you possibly can.

However, if you are really interested in going to the party, you will need a separate ticket for the event, separate from the tickets you use to go into the parks on a daily basis. They run about $40 per adult and less per child, sorry I don't know the exact amount. Tickets for that date should be available.

Planning a first time Disney trip can be a bit overwhelming for anyone. If you need help, you have come to the right place. You might also invest in some of the travel books! Good luck and please feel free to ask any and all questions here!:D

I'll second the recommendation to check out allearsnet.com. It's a great site and has TONS of info on WDW. Also, I have a thread a page or two back now in this section about the Halloween party - kind of the same thing as you, wondering if it was worth it if we have a shorter trip planned. I got a lot of good and different opinions. It's called "MNSSHP - you decide!" (MNSSHP = "Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party" - we are unfortunately very big on acronyms here in the WDW community! )
