October Crowds

I'll be going to WDW in October for the first time. I was wondering, how manageable/chaotic are the crowds and wait times in the first week of October. Does the fact that it is the TOT 10 Miler weekend have any big effect on crowds?

We left the day before the TOT 10 Miler last year, but before that, crowds/wait times were very manageable and dare I say, pleasant. I did notice a lot of people checking in (we left on a Friday) and we were at All Star Movies (I would guess a lot of participants might stay at a Value during this time - I could be wrong) I would just stay away from Hollywood Studios that weekend, and maybe MK.

Early October is generally a great time to be at WDW -- lower-than-average crowds and pleasant weather! If the Food & Wine Festival is going on, you'll want to avoid World Showcase on evenings and weekends (unless you would prefer to mingle among a larger F&W crowd). Obviously, if the 10-miler is going on, you'll want to avoid Hollywood Studios on that day. If you have parkhopper tickets, visit the MK on days when Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is scheduled. (Because the party results in the park closing early, crowds are lower on those days, because guests without parkhoppers don't want to "waste" a ticket on the MK when it won't be open late. Enjoy the low crowds in the morning, and hop elsewhere before the party!) Other than that, tour as usual! :)

We've done October twice, once in early in 2010 and had a great time, low/no crowds and I think we got a deal/percent off staying at PO Riverside.

Prior to that last time we went in October was 1999 so definitely grain of salt here (pre-Mickey NSSH and TOT run) but crowds were non-existent.

I'd say you are good to go and enjoy!
