October 2016 - Low crowds and low humidity?

Newbie here! First post :)

I have been to WDW twice. Once when I was 14 (I'm now 30 something) and we went in August, second time when my son was 8 and we went in January. Two VERY different experiences! Both prior to all of the FP and MB technology and ZERO wait times.

So now we are looking to take our daughter, who would be 8, in October 2016. We'd like to go when the crowds are low. January was amazing. Walking off rides and walking right back on them! Unheard of, really.

Is early October a good choice for low crowds and will the humidity be down at that point?

Mid October is pretty nice. Weather isn't to bad and crowds are moderate. Food and wine is going so Epcot will be busier. I went the 14-18 last October and had a great time. No unbearable lines and weather as I said was great.

We go in October because we get 2 weeks school holidays in Scotland mid October. The weather is great and we saw next to no rain on our last trip - a light misting for 10 minutes one night. Shorts and t-shirt weather, hot but nice.
The crowds were manageable - we like to be there for rope drop and enjoy the lighter morning crowds and FP+ the rides that see longer waits. The halloween parties mean MK closes at 7pm 4 out of 7 nights and food and wine festival push crowds up at Epcot, particularly weekends but, for us, it's the best time to go - Easter and Christmas would just be too busy for us and summer would be a bit hot and humid and busier than October.

I agree with the @Lucky and @JasonDeyoung . Skip Columbus Day and October is an ideal time to go to WDW. Weather is great - not too hot, but not chilly. Humidity is average... after all it is central FL. Crowds are light to moderate depending on the time you go. Make sure to get your tickets for MNSSHP!

Yes, we would be looking at the following week as the resorts rates drop that week, I believe. We are coming from Canada and the dollar isn't the greatest right now. Hoping for a slight improvement by then! (yea, right!)

Side question - Has anyone stayed recently at any of the All-Star resorts? I don't want to spend a lot for our accommodations, but don't want to stay there if rundown.

Might be better under a new thread, but in an attempt to help answer your question: Yes, we stayed at AS Sports last October... it was clean and great for us. We were really only there to sleep, swim a bit, and grab a quick bite to eat. Exactly what we needed for a decent price.

I don't see any current rehab going on at any of the AS resorts right now: http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/rehab.htm

Is it really worth the extra price tag? From what I've read, it's essentially extra time to meet characters, collect candy and dress up...

If you have kids and/or enjoy the Halloween holiday and ambiance of the parks - then most definitely worth the extra price?

It depends on if you think your daughter would enjoy this unique experience.

Agree!! :) but Even if you don't have kids it is a must for me and DH. We don't even usually do the lines for candy. We enjoy the special treats, parade, villain characters, awesome fireworks you can only see at the parties etc. we in fact are gong again to they MNSSHP this Oct. 2 years in a row. Our fave is the MVMCP that we luckily caught that one too last trip because of how I trip fell. We go to that one every chance we can also as just adults(mid-late 30's.). So my point even without kids it is in our opinion worth the extra cost. :)

They have more than that! Lol. They have a special parade and special fireworks show you can only see at the party. Also there is characters that are never out during regular park days. They have special treats they only sell at the parties etc like last year was candy corn soft serve ice cream, pumpkin waffles at sleepy hollow with soft serve in it, and so on. They have the dance party with some special characters which is a lot of fun to participate and watch etc. Plus the rides have little to no waits esp from 10pm-12am. And there is more I know I'm forgetting. :)

we've done october twice and plan to do a third (see sig) in '16. crowds are pleasant enough, although you'll have your busy days with food and wine. plus they usually run discounts or dining weeks during october so keep an eye on that. the weather is great.

I've been to WDW in Oct 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013, and 2014. Each trip it gets more and more crowded since many schools now offer a fall break. Additionally, F&W Festival and MNSSHP draw additional crowds. True the weather is fantastic, but do not go expecting low crowds as many website indicate for October. I've actually moved my trip up to late September this year hoping to avoid the October crowds.

It's still too hot in October for my liking. You'll probably be in the mid-80s and still humid, but not August levels of humid. I know that's "nice" weather for some, but I can't bring myself to trade a week of autumn in New England for a week of autumn in Orlando.

I will be yet another to chime in on the term "low crowds".

The "low crowds" you experienced 20 years ago are long gone. Like T-Rex long gone. The slowest present day crowds at WDW would be classified as moderate to busy 20 years ago.

If you are expecting walk on rides and dining, vast open spaces and being able to show up to parades and fireworks minutes before show time you will be disappointed by what you find no matter when you travel to WDW. There simply is not an off season any more that stretches for more than a day or two.
