Obnoxious DVC Employees

When my wife and I visited in May we stayed at POP Century and really the only annoyance we had was when we first arrived. We had just walked in to start the check in process when we were approached by an older cm. He wasn't standing by a DVC kiosk and I just thought he was welcoming us to the resort. He started making small talk which eventually led to him asking us if we were interested in joining the DVC. I politely declined and explained that we were planning on visiting WDW again every couple of years but right now we simply don't have the 10,000-15,000 that most memberships cost to join. We then walked off towards the check in counter and on the way we stopped to look at some of the display cases they have in the lobby of POP. Suddenly out of nowhere the same DVC employee appeared behind me..." They sure have a lot of neat things in there don't they"...I couldn't believe he had followed me after I had politely declined....so after another 5 minutes of his spiel we started to walk off and he followed us into the check out line and said " well since we're in line waiting I can just get a little information from you". That's when I was pretty firm with him and said in a slightly annoyed tone that we simply weren't interested and that we just wanted to enjoy our arrival at WDW....I found the entire experience to be annoying and frankly it reminded me of the Universal Studios survey people who bombard you when entering their parks. If someone is interested in joining the DVC they will simply go online and get information on their own, there is no need to place a DVC employee at the entrance of a resort and stalk people until they give out their information....

Unfortunately DVC does get a lot of buyers just this way..nature of the beasts...that being said..I probably would have settled my family in and then gone back to speak to the hotel manager..explanied the problem and ask for something to be done...guy doesn't need to het fired..but needs to respect..the word No

I really wonder what Walt would have though of his name being lent for Timeshare? He was an animator from Kansas City...Not a person to bug the living crud on how much longer I can spend staying on a property...Sheesh!

Same thing happened us whilst checking into to POFQ last year. I went up to check in and my husband sat down to wait with our luggage. The DVC guy came over to him and started making small talk the same way! They can be very persistent!

Never had that bad of an experience, but back in February, I took the tour again (not for the tour, but to get all my questions answered). I walked out and I was pretty sure I was going to join. However, once I got back to my room and calculated the cost of the points and maintenance fees, I realized, I didn't want to do it. I called the DVC salesperson and told him and he insisted I was making a mistake, my math was wrong, etc.

Not a big deal, but that's really my issue with DVC. They speak of the dues as if it's some small monthly fee that you'll hardly even notice. Not the case.

I can't stand stuff like that. No means no and they need to leave you alone. I would be really ed off if they did that to me. I'll see how it is when we go in september. We are staying at Poly. If they approach me i will tell them no thank you its something i can not afford. If they continue to bother us then i will be rude and tell them i think its a big rip off! And i will complain to managment. This whole DVC thing just cheapens the WDW experience.

By NO means do I support what this CM did nor if any other CM is that pushy but DVC does not cheapen WDW. DVC has been a great option for many families that have utilized it and it makes sense for them. We have been members for nearly 10 years and love it. Again I can't stand pushy sales people but I certainly support DVC. There are a lot of families that DVC makes sense for and it has been a great addition for our family.

We kind of avoid the DVC CMs as much as we can by staying as far away from the kiosks as possible or, frankly, ignoring them when they shout from within them (which I've experienced). The "pushy" feeling is also true if you've ever requested information about DVC online. I ordered one of the DVDs just to get an idea of what it was all about (my mother is DVC but is really bad at explaining how it works). I ended up getting phone calls from the same CM for the next year, at least once a month. I finally had to go into "stern" mode (like the OP) and say I really needed him to stop calling and that once we determined if it was something we were interested in, we'd call them. The key here is to look at these CMs as less representative of park employees and more like Realtors.

The DVC CM's annoy me as well. Back when my family and I made more frequent trips to the world, I would always wait inside the resort lobby or something while my parents enjoyed a cigarette somewhere outside (I can't stand their cigarette smoking, it makes me nauseous). I've been approached by CM after CM about DVC... funny thing was, I wasn't even of legal age to make any kind of decision (I just turned 18 last October, and I haven't been to the world in at least two years), which really shows how desperate they are for members. Over time I just learned to say that my family and I were already members, and they'd leave me alone rather quickly.

Wow I'd be pretty annoyed. I usually am friendly but it'd be hard when your on vacation and someone is in your face trying to sell you something. I have no problem listening to you one time but if your back up on me 5 minutes later after I politely said no then I'm like okay really?

Odd to hear all this. Unless I approach them, I've never been harassed by a DVC employee. Once you open that door, they become pushy, but I've never had them come after me without provocation (for lack of a better word).

Maybe you misunderstood what I was writing. The fact that Cm's approach you wherever you go to try and get you to spend thousands of dollars on a time share is what cheapens the whole WDW experience. They need to leave people alone and if people are interested they will inquire within. Have a small area or office set up and if i want i will go to them. Do not bother me when i already just spent thousands of dollars just to be here!!

I hate to make this into a class thing but I don't think you'll see this level of push at Poly. I've never stayed at the Value Resorts but all of the Deluxe. I've never been approached by a DVC person in all my stays.
I've stayed at every resort at least once over the years (not bragging, just a frame of reference) and I have never been approached about DVC. Same for DtD and in any of the parks.

They are at the Boardwalk and Yacht Club, Ive seen them working customers..and to be honest..Deluxe resorts are "target rich" enviroments much more than a value resort...

I've never, not once been approached by a DVC employee. Not at a resort, not in a park, not in DTD. Why are you acting like you can't take 2 steps without them running up to you?
