Tonight, as my g/f and I were headed to the Hoop-Dee-Doo-Revue at Fort Wilderness, we took the boat from the Contemporary Resort. Anyways, as we were on our way, we saw the fireworks show (8pm showing) and noticed that where the fireworks were being launched from behind Space Mountain. What's back there? Machinery to launch the fireworks?

Also, how does Disney manage to clean up the firework shells? I guess that's a question that's been bugging me for sometime. For example, Illuminations: Reflections Of Earth, those barges are lighting off some serious firework action, plus the fireball action! How does Disney manage to keep that water clean (if they do)?

Thanks!

It was the angle you were looking at the fireworks from... They are launched from behind Fantasyland, so if you are on Main Street they are above the castle, but say from Liberty Square they almost over the Haunted Mansion.

And if you want to see what a "wonderful" job they do of cleaning up the shell fragments, take a ride on the train at MK to Toontown and you can see the remains of many a fireworks past.

p.s. Both shows tonight were amazing (as usual) and the crowd thinned out pretty well after the midnight events.

I have a video of ROE and the New Year's celebration (not a great angle for a few countries) but I'll have to wait until I get home to capture and encode. I'll probably upload it to Disney-Central on irc.

The lauch area for the perimeter fireworks at MK are located on/near the railroad tracks, from my understanding.

I think the shells are made from paper/cardboard, the small pieces that are created from the explosion probably just degrade in the water, or in the grass.

after the fireworks they have to clean the track. because of the shells. The train dosen't run un till all of the shells have been takeing off the track. thats why the train stops on toontown during wishes.

The train and the riverboat stop during the fireworks becuase of the risk of fire in the woods from fallout. After the show is complete the Fire Dept, will check out the launch & fallout zones for fire, and once they are satisfied that it is safe they will clear the boat and trains.

The fragments shell which are mostly paper just stay where they land, most land in the woods, but you can see some in the rock near the trains.

I have a hard time calling Epcot's use of fireworks behind the WS pavilions "permieter". It truely only surrounds about 3/4 of WS, as their is nothing launched between Canada and Mexico.....leaving a bit of a gap. With the MK show, fireworks completely surround the entire park....

Speaking of fire, last night as we were on our way back from the Magic Kingdom heading towards Pop Century, there was a fire on one of the main drags. Needless to say, as traffic was coming out of the Magic Kingdom, firetrucks and police rushed in and out of traffic to the scene. By the time we passed it up, the fire was just starting to burn. Has anyone else heard of this? What was the outcome? Was the fire put out or did it get worse? This happened on 1/1/05 at around 12:20am.

Reedy Creek Fire was VERY busy last night! Shells and fall-out from MGM drifted across World Drive last night and caused some brush to catch on fire on the west side of the road.

They were all over the parks last night with all the extra pyro being launched.

...and yes; absolutely incredible shows...as always!! Epcot= 30 minutes of show. Started with regular Illuminations @ 11:40, followed with the incredible Holiday Tag, right into the New Years around the world show + finale.

Video does NOT do this show justice. The explosions literally pushed the crowd I was standing in back a couple feet during the end! Impressive.

Family and I watched Pleasure Island Fireworks from Wetzel's Pretzel's on NYE....it was nothing to write home about mostly, but then the grand finale hit and almost knocked us over! Wow what an ending. Great job Pleasure Island!

we could also see MK's from where we were standing...also very nice!

Anyone else see P.I.'s fireworks last night?
