NY Disney Stores ... down the drain

Well.... bad news was sent to us today. This bad news does not concern our store here in PA, but all stores in New York.

Supposadly, ALL stores in New York will be closing within the next year, as from what I understand.

The super big Disney Store in downtown NYC (the 2 story one) will remain a Disney selling store but will not continue on with the name "The Disney Store". This store, once again from what I understand, will be turned into a 'World Of Disney' store.. much like that of Disney World and Disneyland.

I didn't read the full paper... I really just glanced at it... when I saw it I was like " " and ran out to talk to my manager about it.

Sorry to all our New York people :(

Well, if the NY store was as bad as the store here in the Square One Mall in Massachusetts then it won't be missed by real Mickey fans because our Disney Store is covered in POOH!

I mean the whole state.

And DisneyDoll45, I'm really suprised that your store is all Pooh. I know that he's a very popular character, and that we do sell a lot of Pooh merchandise, but lately, our store has been selling a lot of Mickey merchandise.

When was the last time you visited you store?

What paper did you see? Was it in cast communications or an MIB? Is it general info that your manager has shared with the whole cast? I'm just wondering because I am at an upstate NY store and we heard yesterday we were getting new carpet, not closing.

ALL stores is NY state are closing. I have 2 near me and the merchandise seemed to have improved lately, but nowhere near where it used to be. And I thought they were just after Christmas sales. *sigh*

first, please do not see me as annoying, snotty, bittchy, ect. I'm just an Upstate NY disney store cast member who is trying to stop the roomer that all of NY stores are closing..

As a cast member at one of these stores I think I would be one of the first to know of my store was closing. In the past when other stores closed, the cast was one of the first to know.

as for the skimpy looking stores... This year all of the stores were sent alot less quanity (sp?) of each item. This is because in years past stores had to rent out storage units in other parts of the mall or at an outside road unit, or they had both or in the worse cases several of each.... This was very costly. This year the company actually got smart and sent less stuff, but it was more of an On Demand delivery system (they sent what was needed basicly).

Stores are still getting new spring items. We just put out some V-day stuff, a new TIN mickey mouse mug, Mickey Mouse drinking glasses, adult t-shirts, adult denim shirts are back, and other items. New stuff is comming in weekly.

so stop on by, and becareful on the drive over with this cold cold icy weather we have :)

ALL NEW YORK DISNEY STORES ARE NOT CLOSING!!!

Thanks for speaking up, JIMMYBOP!!!

This is a false rumor and a dis-service to all who work and shop there.

In fact, I just came from the Mall and the stores here are looking better than ever with AWESOME new ADULT clothing, and LOTS of new stuff for Valentine's Day and beyond!!! :sohappy: :sohappy:

Maintenance schedules would be the first thing to be cut if the stores were closing soon, and two of the stores here are getting new carpeting and entry gates this week.

Get out there and shop The Disney Store...see what's new!!! :)

I'm just going by my quick glance at the paper, and what my manager told me. I hanv't had the chance to go back in since that night.. probably wont till Friday (even then, I'm on a call in shift).

Jimmybop.. do you by chance know why we are selling Datona 500 T-shirts and sweatshirts? Does Disney actually have a Mickey Mouse themed car?

I was just wondering.. along with the rest of the cast at my store.

this was posted on another message board (disboards.com) about the shirts:

Disney struck a deal with NASCAR for the 2004 season starting with the Daytona 500 in Feb. There will be 5 show cars each featuring a character. There is a car for Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and Pete. They are only show cars and won't drive in the actual race.

Also, Mickey is supposed to drive a couple of the parade laps before the race. I'm not sure how well that's going to work....

You can read more about the deal on NASCAR's website if you're interested.

I quickly went on the nascar website, and the only thing i could find on there was more hats and what not.... if anyone else can find anything please post :)

Saw those in my store the other night, pretty cool if you are a race fan! If you go to Nascar.com you will see all about the Disney Sponsorship. Does anyone else have the move this week-end? Thank God it's on a Sunday night and the Pats are playing on Saturday!

Yea our floor change is on Sunday too. Fortunately, I work during the day! I did the last big floor change a month or two ago.. and yes, it was nice to work with everyone... but the air shut off, and it was extremely hot.

No kidding. I was on the phone tonight with another CM wondering about the new items we are getting in. Will we be selling ABC related items soon too? :hammer:

From what I've gathered the only store changing is the 5th ave store. Also the stores are looking a bit empty because we have inventory, including the warehouses, in the next couple of weeks.
