Nursing home residents visit Disney!

How Cute! My father is in a nursing home with late stage Dementia and he used to love going to Disney World before this horrible disease took hold. He was like a big kid! Every time I go to the Magic Kingdom and I walk down Main Street USA to the Castle I still cry tears from memories past of my Dad walking me down the same street when I was a child. Breaks my heart that now he can't even remember what Disney World is. I am so glad these residents got to experience it and be a kid again.

First off this was a really awesome thread and good to hear story. My mother who passed away January 1, 2014 was in a nursing home for almost a year. They had things to do for them and what I found to be really enjoyable was I would bring my guitar in and play and sing to my Mom and a flock of residents would gather around. I did this for about 8 months until that Day that my mom had passed. So hear is my point, I 've seen in the nursing home where some people only had a visitor on the weekend. The DWF and I visited mom every day for 11 months. It wore us thin. Seniors are hard to care for in some respects but far as entertaining them goes they smile from ear to ear to hear music, Or visit with my Dog when I brought her in to see my mom or just simply have some one just sit down and say hello and then share a diet soda with them. I can't imagine what it would be like to blow their minds at WDW. I am so happy to hear that people took the time to get these seniors out and have them feel happy, respected and just enjoy all the excitement. Take a good hard look at these seniors and the smiles on their faces. I have come to learn via experience and observation that I too one day will be in that same place. I just hope someone will shine a little kindness and take the time out for me like I did for my Mom to try and give them a smile, a story, music a Trip (Awesome) and over all just spend time with me. The nursing home my Mom was in was great and they really tried to keep them busy. However the seniors do still get lonely and look forward to family and visits and love hugs and kisses. I am truly hung up on this subject and am shedding a tear thinking about Mom. I wished I could have done this for her. I just see this thread and all the pictures and say who ever did this for these seniors should be rewarded and praised. What a nice story for me to read on a snowy Day up here in South Jersey.
