Not sure if Disney cruise will work for us, need feedback please!

I really, really wanted to take a Disney cruise after going to the parks forever, as we live within 90 minutes of WDW.
It's just me and my 14 year old son. My husband can't go.
The thing is, I can't find much for us to do on the ship together. It appears that after the show and dinner, we have to go our separate ways in order to have fun. I know there are *family* activities but, they seem largely geared toward younger children. I get that Pirate Night is a family activity and that may work for us. I have to say, my kid is a mature 14, and all he wants to do is take the guided tour of the ship, eat at Palo, and is bummed that he can't.
Taking it a step further, I know he can go to the teen area at night, and he may very well do so. But then, what do I do? Will I be ridiculously uncomfortable going to the lounges by myself?? Are there other things I can do alone?
We don't have issues like this when we visit the parks.
We are looking at 4 nights on the Dream, on 10/23.
Any and all ideas and feedback are most welcome, please talk me back into this cruise!

@prinny20 There are plenty things you can do while your son is at the clubs. You can take a mixology class, lay out by the pool, see a movie (with or without him), go watch "Match Your Mate", take a towel folding class, or go to the pubs and play music trivia. Those are just a few of the things off of the top of my head.

I go with my girls(hubby won't cruise) and I love it. My oldest goes to the kids club but my younger likes to hang around me. We do the activities they have going. I actually would love more alone time to be able to sit and relax and read a bit in the adult area. I have done some tastings and I go to the spa. I am never uncomfortable doing things myself. I know they have single adult activities on some days. There are a lot of parents that go solo and some without kids also so you will not be the only single adult there. I know I plan on going even when my kids are grown. It all depends on what kind of person you are. Do you need to always be doing something or can you just relax and go with the flow.

I am not uncomfortable doing things by myself at all, except for maybe going to the bars. It's been a loooong time since I did something like that! ;) Although, I would like to see them, as they look beautiful. So things like tastings. mixology, etc..., are available in the evenings? Is the spa open in the evening as well?

The spa is usually open pretty late, I want to say maybe 9pm. Cruising is definitely more of a relax type of vacation then a go go go. Unless you go to every port all day. I love just walking around and discovering all the nooks. I have also been know to play the mid ship detective agency(on dream and fantasy) by myself.

There is so much for you to do between the shows, the lounges, bingo, trivia games. Go for it, you will have a blast!!

I agree with everyone else- you will be able to find lots to do by yourself, and with your son! There are lots of family activities throughout the day. Some are geared to younger children, but not all. On my last cruise this past Sept I really enjoyed spending time in the Rainforest room of the Spa just reading a book and relaxing. I also took a few classes on my own (and lots of the cruisers in the class were taking by themselves while family members did other activities). I say try it out and you will be surprised at how much fun you can have!
