Not let back in

Someone told me that you have to be careful if you leave Disneyland for a few hours durring the day as the park can become over crowded and they quit letting people in or even back in if they leave for a while. Is there any truth to this?

This can happen at any Disney park or any theme park for that matter. Every park has a maximum capacity. If that capacity is reached they will not let additional people into the park. This can happen at DL during some of the busier times of the year and during special events but it is not an every day thing.

Even if you already used your ticket for the day and are just re-entering?
When It comes to DL I am not sure. WDW has a clearly defined, 4 phase closure procedure but I am unaware of a similar policy at DL. Unless you plan on going during a holiday or the grand opening of Cars Land I would not worry too much about it. They are rather uncommon in DL

The phased closure happens a lot more often at the WDW parks, especially Magic Kingdom Park. It can happen at Disneyland, but is rarer and usually only during the week between Christmas and New Years and any unique events like the Cars Land grand opening.

As long as you have used your ticket prior to them closing the gates you will be allowed back into the park, regardless if they hit capacity.

If you have not used your ticket before they close the gates, they will sometimes on extremely busy days, allow you to "wait" for Disneyland park to open its gates in DCA for free.
