Non-licensed Merchandise?

I'm not sure if this is the right spot to start this thread, so if it should be moved, please feel free!

We received a couple little outfits for our 7 month old daughter as a gift from a friend. She had them made and include an embroidered Mickey icon head and our daughter's name in the "Disney Font". We were planning on dresing our daughter in these outfits during our trip in a few weeks, but someone told us that cast members will ask us to change her out of the clothes in the parks because it's non-licensed. Anyone heard of this before or is it just one of those urban legends??

Thanks!

That sounds a little over-the-top to me... it's not mentioned in the guest dress code so I can't see how it would be a problem.

While I dont know for sure I can't see them making you change the clothes. That would be like not letting me in because I have a Mickey tattoo that I "borrowed" from a towel design they had. :D

Urban legend. OUt of the hundreds of thousands of products that DIsney license each year, there is no way that any CM in the park would be able to ID them all and make a decision. I think your daughter will be safe :) Have fun!

That would be a little nuts if it were true, IMO. I think the last thing on most CM's minds is if guests' Disney clothing is licensed or not. I think you'll be fine.

I have seen groups of 100+ people running around the parks in unofficial clothing using the "waltograph" font. The only times CMs may approach you about your clothing is if it is offensive, vulgar, possssssssbily if it advertises alcohol/tobacco/etc (but that's probably quite rare), or maybe if it demeans the Disney brand ("Mickey is a #$*%*#$")

In addition to what everyone else has said, it is possible that the Mickey she used in the embroidery is licensed. Disney does sell licensed files to use on embroidery capable machines.

Most of the shirts families get custom made are not licensed and alot of those use the Disney font. I can't see this being true at all.

I think if this was really the case they would probably ask half the people walking around in the Magic Kingdom to start undressing! :)

I think Disney is probably more concerned about the people SELLING the unlicensed stuff than their dedicated fans who (for the most part) probably don't know an unlicensed version from a licensed one.

No worries. :)

First of all, it probably is licensed ...

Disney Embroidery Machine

Second, my nephew (4 years old) walked around the Magic Kingdom with a t-shirt that said "I really don't like Mickey Mouse" on the back (which was true, he was petrified of the characters). Most of the cast members thought it was pretty funny.

Thanks all! I assumed it was just a "story" but thought I'd ask anyway. My guess is that, if it were true, they'd spend half their day chasing down Brazilian tour groups in their printed t-shirts! :ROFLOL:

18 days and counting....get me to the World!
