Noise from MK

Wow, I totally forgot to ask this question when I first got back in December...I promised my mom I'd get an answer (god only knows why I just remembered this now).

Anywho, we stayed at the GF in a lagoon view room and from about 4 am until 7 am each morning we could hear music and such coming from the MK...is this sound checks or parade and show practices or what? We were really shocked to hear stuff in the middle of the night (actually my mom heard it the first night and I told her she was hearing things, until I heard it myself the next night). Can someone clear up this mystery for us?

I know exactly what you're talking about! This past summer when I was there we stayed at the Poly and decided to go use the fitness center at the GF early in the morning before we started our venture to the parks. This was like 6ish. On our way there I could have sworn I heard a werewolf howling and it kinda caught me by suprise so I listened a little harder and sure enough I wasn't hearing things. My assumption was it was a pre-opening test of the HM. So no I don't know for sure what it was but I just thought like saying I'm in the same boat as you are. :brick:

Well they have to test it out and that is probably the only time they can.

Surprised you heard it in the room though...you shouldn't have been able to.

Alot of times, when they change parades, shows, etc... then they do practice at night. This way they can go down the acutally parade route, and use the acutal stage(as opposed to a room or warehouse, were they often rehearse). I have seen a couple of parades this way, acutally.(SADCT is cool at night cause you can really see the float light up):) Although Insider is right, you shouldn't have heard it, but as you know its pretty loud...

When we toured the wedding pavillion there, I heard the wolf howl in the middle of the day.

Or I'm going nuts....which could be.

I live in Oviedo, there is a race track in Bithlo, which is about 30 to 40 mins about from my house, on clear nights I can hear the race cars so clearly it seems like I'm there, so that may explain why you heard noises from the park

Sound really travels from the MK... During the daytime, I can hear the castle forecourt stage show going on from the TTC parking lot. At night time, the sound travels a lot more, and around the lagoon you can hear a lot of the things going on.

I can even hear things from my apartment... Water Pageant, sometimes the parades and other things...

We stayed at the GF during Grad Night and we could hear music late in the evening. It wasn't real loud but once you notice it, that is all you hear when you are trying to go to sleep.

Well, during Grad Night, they have special entertainment (Such as Britney Spears in 99) and other live shows at night(till about 1 or 2 AM as you know):p

Actually gradnite lasts until 4 or 5 in the morning, I believe it starts at midnight or 1 am, it was really late (especially since our school made us attend classes at 7.30 am)

I'm afraid you weren't hearing things. I remember the last time (and the times before that) I stayed at the Polynesian with a room facing the lagoon, you can hear a wolf howling (which is probably from The Haunted Mansion) in the distance. That was the only thing I heard. My brother, on the other hand, has heard the whistle from the train go off at around 7am from the room. At night, though, when you're at the Poly and you're sitting on the bench swing by the lagoon, you can hear quite a bit if you really tune in to it. :)

As sound travels through the air, some of the sound is absorbed by the air. The amount of sound absorbed by the air depends on the frequency of the sound, the air temperature and the relative humidity. Under some temperature and humidity conditions, the air can actually "bend" sound and redirect it to a different location. Also wind and overhead clouds can redirect sounds.

We stay at the Poly also and the Haunted Mansion ride can be heard early in the morning. My husband is always up by 4:30 and he could hear it as clear as day. I'm assuming they are just testing it. Unless the noise goes on all night???
