No straws- right? - but River Country and Discovery Island are toxic dumps...

It's an interesting story, I've seen it in a few places before. I can saw with 100% certainty, that the title is incorrect.

I’m waiting for Disney’s AtlasObscura Resort! People pay big bucks to explore dilipidated landmarks, insane asylums, water parks... And if you’re a DVC member, the first bacterial outbreak is free!
I keep asking Disney how much they want for a River Country tour, but they don't want my money I guess.

I also assume (and maybe I am wrong in my assumption) that when WDW decides to abandon/retire an asset in place (I used to work for a company that has a lot of AIP / RIP assets that were written off the books) it decommissions that asset. Things such as fuel storage tanks are removed, maintenance items such as oils and lubricants are removed, etc. It is not as if on a random Tuesday morning they go "hey, we are closed for good" everybody walks out and everything is left in place to rot. There is a decommissioning process to remove potential hazards.
