Has anyone heard anything else about using the Nintendo DS to view park maps and how long the wait is at attractions? Just wondering if its available or still in the testing process. Thanks

While I was on my CP we were able to sign up to test it since they would be available at Exposition hall. They were going to test them in November last year but moved it back to Janurary. I haven't heard anything about it from my friends who are still there so I'm guessing that the testing got pushed back again.

Only if they let us bring our own DS. I would not be a fan of having to rent a DS and put a deposit down.

I agree. In one form, it's something I would use, in another (rental) it's something I'd ignore. I mean, I've seen the information it carries - neat yes, essential (especially to an experienced visitor) not at all.

DS systems are so ubiquitous these days that I just can't see them being rental only permanently when they are available. They also don't have to worry about piracy, because even if someone dumps the software (which will be done about .001 seconds after public release) it appears to need the expansion pack in Slot II to operate so Disney is covered there in protecting the investment. I don't think they are going to go exclusively rental on this - maintaining those DS rental systems is going to be a nightmare, especially since Disney can't service them themselves. Just keeping them clean will be a job - not to mention thinking of all the droppages, dipping, etc. that we know they will encounter at WDW.

If it were a program for another platform I'd have my doubts, but even people that have flashed/modded DS's have the ability to clean boot the system and it's not like Disney would be walking around troubleshooting the things. With a system like this, it either works - or it doesn't. I use a slot II flash cart in my DS, which I would have to take out to use this - so even though I'd likely buy it no matter what in order to get me to really use it, it would have to have some really great additional features. I like paper maps, LOL - it would have to go far beyond that for me to carry it around every time.

Price will be interesting, with the expansion piece needed...I'd buy it for $40, but I assume it will be $50ish to make rental appealing. I hope if/when it becomes available they find a way to make the Slot II attachment a little less bulky, though - if they want people to keep these handy in pockets they will have to. If you have to carry the thing in a case in your backpack, it's going to be far, far less useful.

I'm really interested how this turns out.

I hope they implement this as well. However, I read somewhere that they are looking at making it capable of reserving FastPasses on it as well. As nice as it would be to not have to run from one end of the park to the other end, it would virtually guarantee that all of the FastPasses would all be gone within an hour of the parks' opening. So essentially you would be paying for FastPasses, since, as was pointed out, the information provided on the DS isn't essential.

Agreed and you made a point I neglected to make. I would prefer that the cartridges be available for purchase. I'd pay $50 for it. I go there often enough to make it worthwhile. I just hope they expand it to other parks.
