Nikon D40 or D60?

For those of you familiar with these two cameras....is the D60 worth the price increase over the D40? I know it is not a huge price difference, but it is enough of a difference to make me want to be certain before I purchase one or the other.

This will be my first dslr, and while I might take some classes to learn how to use it properly, I'm not planning on making photography a hobby....so I don't need alot of bells and whistles.

I've read many reviews that say the D40 is a great camera for someone in my situation....a first time dslr buyer upgrading from a point and shoot who does not want to spend a fortune, but still wants quality. I had pretty much decided on the D40, but I'm now wondering if I should spend the extra money for the D60. But I really do not want to spend the extra money for features that do not make a difference for my purposes.

Any thoughts on the differences between these two cameras?

Dpreview's review should tell you enough to make your decision. It is partially what convinced me not to upgrade from the D40 to the D60.

The D300 is definitely my next camera. At this point, I'm not even looking D90. Since I'm only doing it as a hobby, I wouldn't go full frame, so the D700 is not in my future.

Thanks guys. We ended up going with the D60. Got it tonight! Unfortunately I'm not going to have much time to learn how to use it before our upcoming Disney trip, but seeing how my point and shoot is broken I'm going to have to learn as much as I can since this new camera will definitely be going with me on this trip.

Figment...I believe our trips overlap. I'll keep an eye out for you and your fiancee.
