Something curious I noticed on the official Disneyland 50th Anniversary website (really nice site if you haven't visited... Disney's Golden Celebration), that starts out with "Rediscover a classic landmark as it shines by day and amazes by night" and then "Immerse yourself in the fantastic light show"

Sounds pretty kewl to me...more nighttime entertainment for the 50th!

I've heard hints at something like this in the past, utilizing the new projection system for the castle. I also wonder if this has anything to do with the new strobe effect on the Matterhorn (used in Imagine) and that disco ball looking thing atop the Matterhorn that was tested several months back.

Actually, its a nightime projection system that will project astounding images onto the castle done by a projection company called pani. Mouse Planet provided some images of possible testing, and it looked amazing!

the disco ball idea for Matterhorn was discarded, thankfully. WDI felt (and I agree) that it was very tawdry and tacky. I'm excited for the new projection system...it will look even better than the current changing colors :)

Ah, I hadn't heard that they'd scrapped the disco ball. Not surprising - it was a less-than-stellar effect.

Actually, Al Lutz said that they scrapped it because with all the lights, they nearly caused a few accidents on the near by highway.

LMAO... while that's a funny story, coming from Al Lutz it's probably made up or an exaggeration. :p
