Yesterday, I got to ride Monorail Yellow From Epcot to the TTC. I talked to the pilot and he gave me a tour of the new control interface!
It has automated warnings for tires, AC, power and voltage, doors, and others. All the spiels are now automated. You can give the message for holding, maintenance, load/unload, etc. just by pushing the screen. The operators now have to "sign-in" using a small keychain encoded with their ID by swiping it near the pad on the console. The computer can even be configured to display if there's a wheelchair onboard! As soon as I can get a picture, I'll post one up.
It took them about a week to install all the wiring and sensors for the interface. Right now, they are working out some bugs in the system. I was talking to another operator and he said he got an error message almost every minute. Once that's done, they will start installing them in the other 11 monorails; Monorail Red is supposed to be the next one to be upgraded.
Enjoy Monorail Yellow fans.
