So, we've got a WDW trip booked for August 2018 (this time next year we'll be there!) and when we had our little ones we said when they were old enough we'd go every 2 years (finances allowing as we're from the UK). However I've read in places there going in 2020 would be a mistake as the 50th anniversary would be in 2021 and it may be better to wait for that?

Having done DLP last year and it having a lot of work done and then going again this year when it looked amazing for the 25th anniversary I have to say that I'm thinking we'll wait. Just wondering what others think?

Thank you sir. You were an inspiration.
It depends on the price. If you stay onsite at DLP it can run the money up very quickly. Also you are likely to do 2-3 days there as opposed to 2 weeks in Orlando.
Just to throw a spanner in the mix, have you considered a Disney cruise as there are usually a few leaving from the UK every year.

Sorry, I mustn't have been clear. We're looking at a return to Florida in either 2020 or 2021, We'll no doubt do DLP in the year(s) between so the question is:

Is it better to return to WDW in either 20 or 21.

Thanks for the response though! And we've never really checked out a cruise so may have a look.

I would think all the current construction and proposed construction will be completed for the 50th anniversary. Exactly when in 2021 they will kick off the 50th my guess it will be in October and run through the following year. We plan on going for the 50th (sometime in 2021 or early 2022) Just remember you can book 499 days out

That's interesting. We presumed the 50th celebrations would start over the summer of 21 but I suppose it's worth keeping an eye on.

All the MK anniversary celebrations have "kicked off" on October 1st (we were there last year on that start date for the 45th) and run for at least a year.

@Andrew Appleby, if you plan to continue your every two years trips to WDW, you can take your planned summer vacation in 2018, return summer 2020 (when there will be some new offerings) and then summer 2022 (for the 50th celebration.)

That's a real help! Thanks so much :D

A WDW celebration year can easily end up lasting 16 months or more, they like to stretch them out. There are (or at least should be) always going to be new attractions being built/updated, and there will always be things closing/down for refurb. A slower (relatively) time period due to people anticipating new attractions could lead to bigger discounts, but new attractions could lead to bigger crowds/longer lines. Especially since it sounds like you plan to make a return trip 2 years later anyways, to me it would come down to if there are any show stoppers closed/opening within that time frame. Yes, upgrades are expected, so it's your call if they are worth waiting for or not.
