Screamscape is reporting that Disney may look to Korea as it's next location:

In other news, it seems that Disney has been invited to poke around Korea to pick possible sites for building another park, with the leader being the Seoul Grand Park in Kwachon, just south of Seoul.

This makes more sense to me then a 2nd park in China.

South Korea may get a Disneyland

The city of Seoul, South Korea, and the Walt Disney Company have been discussing plans to create an amusement park.

Mouse-house officials recently visited Seoul to discuss details of the plan with city officials, the Korea Times reported Sunday.

The project to establish a Disneyland is part of the company's plan to expand its business in the Asian market. The Walt Disney Company opened a theme park in Tokyo in 1983, and another is currently under construction in Hong Kong. The company has also expressed plans to build another park in Shanghai sometime in the 2010s.

If the theme park is set up, it would create a lot of jobs for Korean people and bring other economic benefits for the surrounding area, a Seoul City official said.

The plan to establish a large-scale theme park near Seoul was a campaign pledge made by Mayor Lee Myung-bak during the election in 2002.

If it was just Scream Scape. I would side with you. But that second story is an actual News Service.
Besides do you really think they would stick to "no new resorts" if there was a quick buck to be made? :animwink:

I'm telling you at this rate I'll be going to Disneyland Canada in the next 10 years. :D
(I'm kidding of course, but I still think a Mineral King ski resort would work up here).

The most insane news story I had heard, and now I can't remember where I read it, was about a Disney resort on the Vietnamese Coast because it is supposed to be a major vacation destination as it is and would be able to attract an existing holiday traveller base.

Actually I could see Korea.
They have a couple of really nice parks over there already.
And they have an almost Japanese like obsession for Disney.
But Vietnam?
I don't think so.

Well, I did a search and came up with this, but it's not the thing I had read before:

http://www.vietnamtourism.com/index/e_index.asp

Edit: Click where it says "Southern Province attracts huge investment in tourism sector." That will bring a list of links, one of which is from a couple of weeks ago saying Disney has agreed to invest in the Southern Province... Guess its not a crazy as I thought.

I'm not sure what the numbers would be but I'm guessing pretty low.
According to the OLC website, most guests are Japaense.
Besides if they saw an OLC park compared to a Disney park, they will be pretty disapointed.

Please tell me that that's a joke!! Remember that other link I posted where the rumor was the next park was going to be built in Chechnya!! I hope this is the same thing.

And you're right. At this rate next thing you know there will be Disney parks in every state.

NEXT PARK: DISNEYLAND NORTH DAKOTA!!!!

Well, well, well. I guess this story has legs afterall. Here's what I just read over at ThemeParkInsider.

Chosunibo 11/7/04

A number of Korean news outlets are beginning to report word of Disney planning a theme park in the country. While everything seems to still be preliminary, Seoul’s mayor “promised” a major theme park like Disneyland would come to the city in the near future in 2002. I smell something like what happened with “Disney’s America” - supposed to be built in Northern Virginia, but what actually came to fruition was the announcement of Disney’s California Adventure. Just what the world needs, another $2 billion theme park with 4 boring attractions.

Sorry Buddy,
This looks like it might be Legit.
I still think Korea is a better bet than China.

First of all, I'm immediately sending you to deprogramming if you're even THINKING like Eisner.

Secondly, I thought the Korean peninsula is considered unstable. What with the North talking about nuclear weapons and building nukes and firing nukes and how far the nukes can go and who they want to nuke. Awful lot of nuke talk going on for my taste. :D

The south is all good. The north?...Have you seen Team America yet?
(and if you haven't you should).
Anyway, I'm saying the Country is OK, the region is unstable. But North Korea also has missiles pointed at Japan.
Must get back to "A Work In Progress" now. :D
